One of the most beautiful creations based on the VW Beetle platform: the stunning Karmann Ghia, first introduced as a styling concept in Paris in 1953. From August 1955, the Type 14 was assembled in Osnabrück, Germany, and more than 10, 000 units were produced in the first year alone! The 2+2 coupe was produced from 1955 to 1975, and the convertible with the same interior layout followed from 1957 to 1975. Concurrently, the Type 34 was also in production, and later, the Brazilian Type 145 TC. In short: a combination of Italian design, durable German engineering from the VW Beetle, and German handcraftsmanship from the Karmann bodyworks. The car also reached the American market, where it found considerable success.
The offered car is an American version, also fully restored. The 1970/ 1971 models for the US market are recognizable by the small rectangular lights beneath the main rear taillights. This car underwent a full restoration about 10 years ago, which we consider to be well-executed. The paint has a few minor imperfections, such as scratches, but overall the color remains vibrant and attractive. The 1. 6-liter engine with 51 horsepower provides decent performance, especially with a weight of around 800 kg (maximum speed of 133 km/ h). The engine has only a few thousand kilometers since the overhaul and runs beautifully, as does the gearbox. The car also has a new, well-fitted cloth top.
Overall, this is a well-preserved vehicle currently registered with Czech vintage plates, and it comes with extensive documentation, including a Dutch appraisal rating it at condition 2.
