Description

VW Golf Mk1 1983
1. 3 Driver
4 speed manual gearbox
Classic car log book - Tax and MOT exempt.

It took me 6 years to locate a car in this condition, colour and spec.

This car was an original barn find.
It was stored for 24 years in a barn in Scotland, where I purchased it from the guy who rescued it.

He managed to persuade the owner to finally part with it after the estates owner sadly passed away.
The car was mot’d but needed a few things to finish it off .

Since I’ve owned the car (June 2018) it’s had no expense spared and been in dry storage.

Things I’ve done to the car since ownership:
Replaced wiper motor and wiper motor cover.
New rear lights as old ones had cracks in.
Second hand P slot alloy wheels which have been professionally straightened, painted, new Pirelli tyres all round.
Sourced P slot center caps, these are extremely rare, also painted to match the alloys.
Newly powder coated GTI front and rear anti roll bars with all new brackets and bushes.
New bilstein shocks and springs lowered 30mm with new strut top mounts.
New bottom arms with new ball joints.
New single headlight front grill. I still have the original twin headlight grill and spots. I just prefer the look of the single light grill.
New front discs and pads, along with new NS rear break cylinder.
New alternator.
Second hand Wolfsburg steering wheel. Comes with original GTI style wheel.
Rear spare wheel well painted due to small rust hole appearing. Common on tin top mk1’s.
New sump. Had a slight oil leak and rusty.
New fuel filler cap
New fuel filler downpipe to fuel tank.
New exhaust.
New coil
New condenser

Points of note..
The radio doesn’t work. It’s not original and I’ll probably remove it anyway.
There is a small fuel leak from the bottom of the carb. It doesn’t affect the running. Just appears after sitting for a while.
Some small dings on the roof. A decent dent repair shop could get them out no problem.
The rear parcel shelf is original but has warped over time and has some slight damage near to the drivers side hinge.
The car has had paint over the years so don’t expect it to be immaculate. But it is in very good condition for the year.

Overview:
The car runs and drives excellent. I’ve taken it to a few shows and it always gets lots of attention.
It has the original service book and manuals.
2 sets of keys. Fuel filler cap key is different.
All glass is engraved with the original number plate.
It is Classic car registered so is Tax & MOT exempt.
Cost of ownership is only the cost of insurance.
This car is an excellent investment as the prices of mk1’s is always on a steady rise.
The car also comes with many spares that I have replaced as I know parts can be hard to come by.
I also have all the receipts for well over 5K since my ownership.
I insure the car on an agreed valuation with Lancaster Insurance for 12K.

Any inspection and questions welcome.
Car is located in Swindon SN2.
Cash either on collection or bank transfer before car is released.
