Description
Recently released by the French army, now fully restored, with UK classic car status, road registered and cheap insurance. 4x4 2. 5 litre (EN55) Peugeot engine.
This is a Mercedes Benz G Wagon joint development with the French Government, basically a G Wagon but with Peugeot EN55 diesel unit and gearbox. The German army had the 'G wagon', the French called theirs the 'P4'.
All parts readily available and low cost, as the running gear is shared with the older LDV cargo van, or the classic G Wagon.
Cabriolet; Roof, doors and even windscreen fold down giving you a number of different configurations.
It is fitted with brand new, excellent automotive quality, full foul weather roof and doors, even has a heater and demist, so can handle all weathers.
Impressive off road, extremely well balanced with 2 wheel, 4 wheel drive in high and low ratio... and the bonus that it won't leave a pool of oil when left on your drive.
Light steering and power assisted brakes.
UK road registered ('v' reg), MOT exempt, CAZ compliant, Zero road tax and low insurance.
Delivery, (export), and even a limited warranty available if you desire. I have owned a number of these capable machines, so know a good one when I see one. This is a very good example - 'on the button'.
Work recently completed -
New batteries (6TN NATO- the very best)
Fully repainted in grey
Fresh under-seal
Full fluid and filter change
Revised brakes
New vinyl roof, and excellent doors
Internal floor mats throughout
New windscreen wipers
Refreshed radiator (to improve cooling)
x5 new (designated 50% road / 50% off road) tyres
Sound proofing under bonnet to reduce road noise
These are easy to drive, capable, head turning, and a fun bit of kit to own. A fraction of the cost of a German G wagon, and easily maintained with parts obtainable from the internet, so a real investment, that will only go up in price.
It can be resprayed the colour of your choice (at cost) if you wanted - not everyone likes this 'field' grey! They do look nice in red! These 'jeeps' were manufactured in 1980 for the Iranian government. When the Shah of Iran was replaced, it was passed from Mercedes to the French Government. The French appointed Peugeot to fit a petrol engine and their own gearbox, then upgraded the engine to the Peugeot 405 diesel engine in the late 1980s.
This was used by the French army on light duties probably having engine changed again in the mid 1990's when it was fully rebuilt by the government yet again. Purchased at auction by a defence contractor in the the late 1990's and stored until I purchased about 1 year ago from him in France. It was fully rebuilt about 2 months ago, and maintained / driven daily by me since then. In effect one owner since new!
Now offered for sale as I am working on a 'long-range desert' version of the same vehicle, and need the space.
