Description
This beautiful V8 Alfa has a firm place in the garage of true connoisseurs. The special model by M. Gandini from the Bertone studio came in 1970, but it went into serial production two years later. Between 1970 and 1977, only a total of 3, 925 cars were produced. The reason for the gradually declining demand was mainly the oil crisis, which was not favorable to sports cars with large engines. Additionally, the fact that the Montreal was never sold in its natural market, the USA, where it would have fit like soda with whiskey, contributed to this decline.
One interesting fact is that the Alfa received a raised hood to accommodate the V8 engine derived from the unparalleled 33 Stradale. The V8 with four camshafts was bored out, got fuel injection, and its power was reduced to a total of 200 horsepower to make it more durable and usable for everyday driving. The changes slightly affected the design, although the covered headlights, for instance, remained. In the 1970s, colors were all the rage – the Montreal offered a whole palette, including not only the obligatory red but also a gold metallic, green "Verde Termico," brown-beige "Marrone Luci Di Cosco," or the iconic orange that can be seen in the Alfa Romeo Museum in Arese (where both mentioned prototypes rest).
The offered Alfa Romeo has been thoroughly tested and even appeared in the Autotip Klassik magazine (summer 2023). Since then, it has received clear headlights and some careful maintenance. Otherwise, it is a fully functional, beautiful example with nice paint, and it has also undergone fuel injection service. Overall, a beautiful car with a big heart.
