The 1, 290 cc DOHC in-line 4-cylinder twin-spark engine is a GTA1600 (bore 78 mm x stroke 82 mm) with a short stroke of 67. 5 mm and 96 bhp/ 6000 rpm with two WEBER45DCOE carburettors.
The body is lightened by more than 200kg, indicating the 'A' in GTA, the conversion from steel to aluminium, grilles, shield, air intakes, U-shaped door handles, magnesium wheels, side stripes and the four-leaf clover logo are exclusive to the 'GTA'.
The example presented today, chassis number 'AR776142', is a 'Stradale' produced on 23 November 1973, painted in 'Biancospino' (Alfa Romeo Historic Automobilism Certificate). On 29 November 1973 it was invoiced and delivered to the AutoBecker dealership in Germany. It remained unsold for several years at AutoBecker until 1979 when it was bought by another German dealer.
Never registered and still new, in its original configuration in 1983 it was exported to Japan by the owner of the Tokio Classic Car Shop. Two years later, in September 1985, it was registered for the first time with the Japanese number plate '68. 33'.
The Japanese owner, owner of a well-known historic car trading company, bought the car in road configuration, but over the years collected many original Autodelta parts with which he gave the car a racing trim. The following original Autodelta accessories were fitted: - Light door with Plexiglas glass - Oversized fuel tank with racing cap.
- Oversized magnesium oil pan - Rear skid - Racing driver's seat - Roll bar - Oil cooler - Racing air intake manifold - Magnesium wheels The car remained in the same Japanese collection for over thirty years until 2016 when it was sold to Symbolic International, San Diego, Cal. USA. In 2017 it was sold and registered in England with the number plate SCW963L and shortly after exported to Italy to be restored to its original "Stradale" model specifications. This splendid example has arrived to the present day in excellent condition with all the original body panels and the original engine. The restoration of a conservative nature required only the total disassembly of the bodywork with the overhaul of all the mechanical parts without having to carry out structural work as it had never been subjected to shocks and had never been involved in exasperated competition.
In February 2019, it was exhibited at RM-SOTHEBY'S auction in Retromobile-Paris where it was sold for €263, 000 including royalties. On 6 December 2017, it was accompanied by an ALFA ROMEO CLASSICHE certificate of origin attesting to its authenticity. On 20 November 2019, it obtained the ASI certificate of historical relevance.
On 14 December 2019 it was homologated ASI with the issuing of the certificate of identity and the TARGA ORO. In April 2021 it was registered in Italy It is believed that the mileage indicated, of 51, 767 km is the original of the car. One of the most appreciated Alfa Romeos, ready to participate in the best European events.
