History: ComprehensiveWe have looked after this lovely Mercedes SL500 convertible for the last two owners. Used sparingly, but regularly by both it has a service history that spans the 44 years and includes the original dealer service book, MOT’s and invoices for all of the work carried out in the last 10 years.
It was resprayed 5 years ago and 3 years ago it underwent a significant mechanical and trim overhaul. This included an SL Shop ‘Sportline’ suspension pack with Ebatch springs and Koni Classic shock absorbers. It was also treated to a new set of their excellent 17 inch Alloy wheels and new tyres. This has transformed the body control and handling of the car, retaining its complaint ride, but eliminating the body roll that plagues these heavy GTs.
The engine, gearbox, diff all had a major service, with the hydraulic tappets checked and fuel injection system refurbished. The engine is powerful, there is no 'hunting' at idle even when stone cold and it does not 'over fuel' which is so common in poorly maintained examples.
The automatic gearbox changes smoothly, kicking down a gear quickly when you prod the throttle.
Our trim shop repaired the original seat foams and covers and replaced the beautiful blue convertible roof, Just a few years ago. It remains in lovely condition, the seats are supportive and the whole interior feels and smells like the low mileage, well cared for example it is.
The hardtop comes with the car and is in as good condition as the rest of the car.
It comes for sale having just had its annual service, a new fuel pump and fresh MOT. The car can be viewed by appointment at our showroom, adjoining our workshop in Bicester, where the service history can be checked and vehicle looked at on our ramps.
