Description

FOR SALE
Vw t2 dormobile campervan, crossover year, manufactured 1972, registered 1973

Colin campervan has been in our family for about 30 years. I have lots of fond memories as a young boy and as an adult with him. 30 years worth of paperwork.

The van was my daily drive for several years, it was in regular use until 2016 when I decided to do a “rolling restoration”. I spent £4000 to get new panels welded to the rear of the van and it has been in dry storage since.

I am an experienced maintenance engineer and I have done some good work but at the speed I am going it will never get finished so I think it’s time to let go.

It’s MOT and tax exempt and apparrently ULEZ exempt allthough you’d need to check. It can legally have the black and silver number plates because it was made before 1980, which is nice.

I haven’t bothered MOT’ing it since it became exempt due to limited use, but I expect it will need work on the brakes and some welding to get it through the next one.

I’ll list some of the good work I’ve done over the last few years:
* Lifting roof. Removed, stripped, cleaned, polished. All brackets re-plated. New rubber seals etc…
* Wheels. All hot dip galvanised and new tyres fitted. 2 extra spare wheels included
* Engine bay wiring loom re made this year
* electronic ignition fitted to original distributor.
* Engine fully rebuilt and tinware painted. including original fuel pump, carb and distributor rebuilt.
* AFR sensor fitted in the exhaust. I have gone to a lot of trouble to road test the van and get the engine running as well as I can. I have altered the jets in the original solex carb slightly and I believe it it as good as you will ever get now without fitting an aftermarket carb.

There are lots of original spare parts: gearbox, cylinder heads, carb, distributor etc… Also all the original awning, seats etc allthough all very tired.

I would strongly recommend viewing the van, It’s always been kept “on the road” in as much as tax and insurance and I do drive it periodically but your standards might be different to mine.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that it has a rock and roll bed, common to most campervans! I wonder if it was invented by chuck berry.

Allthough the rear of the van has had a lot of panels replaced, there is still a lot of work to do, especially the front panel which will need a lot of work.

I’m open to offers of course but I think £6000 is a reasonable amount to ask since it was probably worth that much back in 2016 before I started spending money. I’ve spent about £6000 on it since then.
