Description
For sale is my 2007 Porsche Cayman. This is the 2. 7 with a 5spd manual gearbox, in Arctic Silver with black leather, and is very good condition with a full service history. As of 29/ 09/ 24, it has 64, 789 miles on the clock. This will increase by approx. 30 miles per week as I use this as my daily car. Located in Lymm, Cheshire, post code WA13.
I’m asking for £15, 000. It has been priced to sell compared to others of similar spec, mileage and condition for sale in the UK at the moment.
My reason for the sale is simply that I’ve had my fun with it – I’ve been on several long-distance road trips with it, including 4 weeks around Europe in 2023, and most recently to Le Mans this year. But it was never supposed to be my ‘forever’ car, and having recently rescued a doggo I need to change to something a little more practical. What’s the expression, if you love something set it free.
In terms of equipment, the car comes with:
- PCM sat nav with phone prep
- Sport Chrono pack plus
- PASM (Porsche active suspension management)
- Cruise control
- Porsche embossed headrests
- Steel chrome plated tailpipes (these are aftermarket but I’m not sure what brand, and was fitted prior to my ownership)
- Rear wiper
- 18” Cayman S alloys with Porsche crests
- Climate control
Overall the car is in very good condition as hopefully you’ll see from the pictures.
The complete service history intervals for the car are listed below. Note that some of these were not from my ownership.
- 31/ 03/ 2009 – Porsche Centre Reading at 15, 741 miles
- 22/ 01/ 2011 – Porsche Centre Leicester at 30, 722 miles
- 27/ 03/ 2014 – Porsche Centre Leicester at 40, 393 miles
- 22/ 04/ 2022 – Dove House Motor Company at 48, 355 miles.
- 18/ 03/ 24 – JMH Automotive at 62, 046.
- Next service will be due at 82, 046 miles.
In terms of other works, such as maintenance, repairs, or replacements for the car in my ownership:
- 18/ 05/ 23 – Hunter Hawkeye 4-wheel laser alignment at Weissach, Porsche specialist.
- 19/ 10/ 23 – Replaced the clock spring in the steering column. This was done by JMH Automotive in Holmes Chapel.
- 19/ 01/ 24 – Replaced one of the keys as the receiver unit failed. This was done by Porsche main dealer in Wilmslow.
- 04/ 05/ 24 – Refurbished the alloy wheels. This was done by SmartWheels in Manchester to a very high standard and to original factory colour. There is a 12-month warranty on these that lasts until May 2025.
- 04/ 05/ 24 – New rear tyres in May 2024. Bridgestone Potenza Sport (265/ 40 R18) factory N-rated tyres. These were replaced at the same time as the wheel refurbishment to avoid damaging the rims.
- 06/ 06/ 24 – New discs and pads all -round in May 2024, brake fluid flush and fill, upgraded brake cooling ducts, upgraded the brake lines to Goodridge braided steel lines.
In terms of upgrades and/ or modifications in my ownership:
- No major or significant modifications to the engine, gearbox, suspension, etc. It is all original and I always opted for OEM replacements where parts were required.
- The only modifications I’ve made to:
o To the upgrade to the brake lines, as stated above. This was more of a preventative maintenance thing, as opposed to being for performance reasons.
o To upgrade the brake cooling ducts to 997 911 GT3 ones. This is a direct bolt-on replacement and is quite common for Cayman owners to do. Granted this is anecdotal but I have felt a small difference in how much longer the brakes last
- Minor visual modifications in my ownership include a refurbishment of the side vents. The owner prior to me had, frankly, done a terrible job of spraying them black. I wanted to keep them black as I like the look, but I gave them a full strip down and repaint this summer (prior to Le Mans). I also added the black Porsche logos at the bottom of the door sills. Appreciate this may not be to everyone’s tastes but I like them.
- Other very minor visual things in my ownership are the replacement of the wheel centre caps, replacement of some missing trim pieces in the front boot (frunk) of the car, including me buying replacements for some of the tools that had gone missing from the toolkit in the front. I’ve also replaced all the number plate mounting screws as the previous ones had started to rust and it just looked a bit naff. Appreciate these are minor things and may not be of any interest/ concern to future buyers, but honesty is the best policy. I bought the car from Dove House Motor Company in Rushden, Northants, a reputable Porsche dealer, in July 2022 and in my ownership it has covered nearly 20k miles. This has been my daily commuter and has never let me down. There have been things I’ve needed to repair/ replace (detailed below) but it has always started on the button, at all times of year, and has genuinely been a joy to own and drive the entire time. Sure you can get faster cars with more practicality these days, and yes it’s only the ‘baby’ of the Cayman range, but it still turns heads and makes that wonderful flat-six noise. The car has not been taken to a track/ trackday in my ownership, nor do I believe the previous owners ever used this on the track. I have loved this car and it hasn’t wanted for anything.
It has an MOT until April 2025, with no advisories on its last MOT. The registration is RJ07VOK and you can see the history for yourself. The car comes with 2 keys, and is as original as you can find one. All of the original bits to the car, for example the original infotainment, audio, all of the Porsche official stuff you find in the glovebox, and all of the cargo bay nets and straps, etc. I’ve deliberately not tried to ‘mess’ with this car.
The bodywork is generally in very good condition. The paint is in great condition and it has never had any corrective work done to date.
There are a few minor blemishes as you might expect of a car of this age.
- Firstly, unfortunately some absolute trumpet reversed into me in a car park and there is a small spiderweb on the front nose (just before the bonnet) from where their tailgate caught it. They didn’t leave their details, so I wasn’t able to go through insurance. Fortunately, this is a minor blemish on an otherwise very good condition car, and the cracks only tend to show more in bright conditions when the sun catches it. Someone with more talent than me with a machine polisher may be able to get this out.
- The front of the car has a few chips from stones on motorway miles. None of these are significant and are as you’d expect for a car of this age and when being used daily.
- There is a small stone chip in windscreen on drivers side. It is small (half the size of a 5p) but you can see it. However, it hasn’t affected the MOT, and it has gone through three MOTs with this chip in the screen (one just prior to me purchasing, and two in my ownership).
- There are some minor scratches on some panels. These are not deep and cannot be felt using a fingernail. I have tried my best to polish these out and generally can only be seen when the light catches them.
- There is a minor mark on the passengers side door where (another) whopper has opened their door on me and not left their details. Same as above, this is only visible in bright conditions and a good polish will rectify it.
The interior condition is very good. This is all original and hasn’t been messed with. It has been cleaned regularly, and has never had smoke or pets in the car in my ownership. Please bear in mind that the dashcam and magnetic phone mount are not permanent and can be removed easily. A minor point with the interior is the drivers seat bolster which is showing some signs of wear. I will be continuing to use this car as my daily, but I will give it a full clean and vac (inside and out) prior to sale.
I appreciate the above is an essay, but honesty is the best policy, and car adverts with little detail are a personal gripe of mine – I want to be transparent with prospective buyers as to what the car is and what it isn’t. Unfortunately, I won’t be allowing test drives, due to bad previous personal experiences of test pilots. However, I will give rides with you as passenger and show you around the car.
