Description
My Triumph Herald 13/ 60 is now for sale. I bought it earlier this year to enjoy during the summer and have done over 1000 miles this year. Mechanically excellent having benefited from the following in recent history;-
Overdrive gearbox, Full engine rebuild, Lead free Head, Front and rear suspension overhaul at a cost of £3614, Full brake overhaul at a cost of £1995, water pump, Alternator, wax oil treatment, GT6 steering wheel, Re upholstered, Fuel pump, window regulator and drivers window, head gasket, rocker cover gasket, Wheel bearings etc. All of the above have documented receipts in the history file. There is also a tonneau cover for the rear and a fibre glass hard top currently fitted, included in the price.
It was my intention to fully restore the car during the summer, whilst also driving it locally in the Highlands, however, a month after buying it, and two years since previously retiring, I found myself working again! Hence, it is time to let it go as my life is now hectic to say the least. It drives really well, aided by the higher speeds possible with the fully functioning Overdrive gearbox.
The body panels are showing signs of rust, however, this is not structural and mainly located in the seams, where a previous repaint has been undertaken without due care and attention to details. The condition of the chassis and outriggers is good, having benefited from wax oil treatment previously. It has even very well admired and photographed here in the Highlands by the locals and tourists alike. Part of the appeal being the "unrestored" look, and the amazing ability to keep up with modern traffic conditions on the local A roads.
There are a few issues, however, none are serious. The "white" convertible hood is not special but does go up and down, there are a few small holes etc. The oil pressure switch needs replacing as the wire connector is loose resultingin the oil light flickering occasionally, I have the part, but no luck yet replacing. One of the rear shockers needs replacing also, but I have purchased a new pair, included with the car. I replaced the drivers door handle and lock, but there is no key for it. The temperature and fuel gauges do not function and, looking at the history file, have not done so for many years.
I recently took it to the Beaulieu International Autojumble Automart to sell, however, despite significant interest, I brought it back home with me. I have a small Brian James trailer, so delivery is possible at additional cost if needed. When I bought the car, I checked the oil and water and drove it back 360 miles home without missing a beat.
So, to summarise, a solid, updated vehicle which can be enjoyed as is, or, restored further, in the knowledge that many of the potential issues have already been attended to. A car that I have enjoyed for what it is! Plenty of service history, a box full of bits and pieces such as oil filter, coil etc. Well admired and well enjoyed "RELIC" as it was nicknamed by me.
