Welcome to the sale of my 1972 Alfa Romeo 2000GTV.
This is quite possibly the most original 105 for sale in the UK. The level or originality is incredible, with features that are almost always lost over the years. It was previously supplied by GTO engineering.
Body:
The car was repainted to a very high standard in the 1990s in its original colour. The only remedial work has been to a small arch section (using a classic alfa panel, and the side sill). Other than that, everything thing else is original. There is no other welding on the car. As a result, the shut lines, panel gaps and overall sharpness of the car is how it would have been when it was new.
All the original weld spots are clearly visible, this includes all four wheel arches, the rear panel, lower front valance, rain channels, the boot lid and the entire floor area. The chrome work is in exceptional condition for the age, as are the lenses, glass and rubbers.
Just looking down the sides of the car, you can see how flat and straight it is. The minimal bodywork was done by well respected Alfa Romeo specialist John Holden of Pure Bodies in Hampshire.
Mechanics:
The car has been maintained to a very high standard regardless of mileage, with over £15, 000 of invoices in the last 15000 miles. A compression test was completed 1000 miles ago. The engine and gearbox are incredibly smooth owing to its low mileage. Various areas have been tended to in recent years, this includes new brake master cylinders, new clutch cylinders, regular full servicing including plugs, distributor cap and HT leads, an improved electronic fuel pump, an electronic (123) ignition system, an electric "Kenlow" fan, a carburettor tune, new exhaust sections, new starter motor, new heating system (fan/ motor/ matrix/ pipes), new battery. The cylinder head has been removed/ stripped/ cleaned and re-faced, a new water pump was fitted.
Chassis:
Full Harvey Bailey handling kit including adjustable Koni shock absorbers and lowering springs. GTA style wheels (Classic Alfa) with Avon tyres. New brake lines, shoes, pads and discs, new rebound straps and bushes, various new arms and a recent wheel alignment.
Interior:
This is where this car is in a league of its own. All the screws and screw cups that hold the door cards, hockey sticks, trim panels, and sill plates are the original ones. The dashboard is in almost perfect condition, there are no holes made for a radio in the dash, and no speaker holes in the centre console or door cards. All the wiring is the correct original wiring. The headlining is in excellent condition, with no sagging or rips, or marks for that matter. The rear view mirror and vanity mirrors are free from corrosion or delamination.
All the electrics work, including the interior lights when you open a door, and the glove box light. All the dash and warning lights work, including the light the shows the choke is on (I never knew they have that!). The instruments are clear without any signs of being removed. The seats have the right amount of patina, none of the hardware is damaged or missing. The rear parcel shelf is in excellent condition. The carpets are original, and are in very good condition.
Overall this car drives and feels like it is 10 years old, the gearbox is smooth, there is no need to double clutch like so many Alfas of this age. Being the top of the range 2. 0 model, it has nearly 130BHP, twin servo brakes, and a limited slip differential, all items that do not appear in lower models. It makes for a much nicer car to drive in modern day traffic.
It comes with a history file going back to the 80s, both sets of keys, the original jack, brace, and spare wheel, the original kneeling pad, the original owners manual, the original 1972 Alfa Romeo UK dealers list, and previous owner registration documents. The car is "HPI" clear in all categories, it has had one plate change, and was registered on MOO 2 for the first half of its life.
Whilst the car is in superb original condition, it is still 52 years old. Having said that, I don't think there is a better 105 for sale.
