1980 MERCEDES-BENZ 280CE - W123/ C123 - CHAMPAGNE OVER RED - 53K MILES APPROX - MOT & TAX EXEMPT - 2 KEYS - A/ C.
Unfortunately for sale is our RARE 1980 W123/ C123 Mercedes 280CE Auto, we bought this car earlier in the year in mind of being our summer car being a pilar-less coupe to take to Cars & Coffee events. However, due to not using really using the car (probably only covered about 300 miles if that) and looking to commit to the restoration of my Alfa Romeo & house renovations deems this surplus to requirements. It would make a proper good cruiser and a greater starter classic! Although it would look good lowered down on some shiny split wheels, currently the car is fairly standard bar the dealer fit A/ C.
It has 53k approx on the clock- all believed to be genuine according to MOT history. 2 keys, clean V5. It lived most of its life in Ealing and drove round Central London. It was owned by Jonathon and his son Hamish Orr-Ewing who are/ were directors of The Carlton Club. Then the previous owner used this sporadically as a daily ultimately parked underground predominantly but sold to me because he has moved with his job in the U. S.
The car runs and drives well - the straight 6 sounds great! The bodywork is as pictured, it’s not terrible if you know W123's but it’s not concours. The brightwork is largely nice and comes up well. I have many more pictures and a 11 minute long video that shows the car in detail which I'm happy to share. Also, happy for any inspection. I would say however, this is a classic car and not mint, although largely solid and useable.
Latest service history:
Fuel Filter and Fuel Pump replacement - 53, 000 miles
Had all the welding done to the front end - arches and floor pans are all good - car has been undersealed thereafter
Oil Filter and change - 51, 953 miles
Oil service, spark plugs, gear lever bush, coolant flush & brake fluid - 50, 582 miles
Radiator and cylinder head gaskets - 46, 554 miles
Things to note - I've tried to take as many photos as possible but the eBay limit is 24 - please let me know if you require any specific picture of the bodywork. I'll likely have it on my phone. Below is a list of things which I would say are worth considering although this will make the Merc sound a lot worse than it actually is:
Window rubbers needs replacing - they are perished (pictured)
Bottom of the doors are quite bad - although not really visible externally (pictured)
Boot floor is good, however, the rear passenger side has a very small hole. I was going to patch this up as a temporary repair but thought best to leave to new buyer for transparency purpose (pictured)
There is some micro blistering on the rear passenger quarter edge (pictured)
There is a slight run on the rear passenger quarter (pictured)
There is a slight bubbling around the rear screen on the rear passenger quarter, however it is not soft (pictured)
Rear drivers arch lip has bubbling although not soft (pictured)
Sunroof has been sealed up
Rear doorcards cracked
Front door pockets are removed
If interested, the best thing is to come and see the car in the flesh - I'm purposely being overly critical to ensure that you have a good representation of expectation of the car prior to viewing. Please do not come and view expecting a show room or a fully restored car. I would love this to go to a fellow enthusiast to be taken care of properly as it needs some love and time to get back to show standard.
Please let me know if you have any questions - happy to discuss anything via phone.
