Description

This is No. 27 of the 402 Bimota SB3 build during the years 1979, 1980, 1981 and 1982. It has never been ridden, it has never been used on any road and is still in the as delivered in 1979 when new condition. It shows 2. 1 kilometers on the odometer.

All images posted are of the actual bike for sale, many of them taken by a professional photographer in a studio setting with propper lighting etc,

Of the 402 Bimota SB3 build about 350 left the factory in kit form, incomplete and obviously without title documents, with the engine and carburetors as well as the gauges and wireharness and all electrics missing, to be supplied via a donor bike GS1000 by whoever finished the bike in the country these kits were send to.

Bimota at this point in the late 70-ies had not become yet a full motorcycle manufacturer, but was still considered a tuner of existing motorcycles, in the case of the SB3 this would be the in 1978 introduced GS1000, Suzukis most powerfull inline 4 at that time.

In Germany, which was Bimota's largest sell-to country back then the SB3 project was taken on and helped along by no less than the official importer of all Suzuki motorcycles for Germany, i. e. the Suzuki Motor Handels GmbH in Munich in Germany, a subsidiary of Suzuki in Japan.

These very few, very special Suzuki Bimota SB3 sold in Germany carried the regular Suzuki warranty as offered on all other Suzuki models of the time. The bike was officially called the Suzuki Bimota SB3 which is also listed as its model name on the owners manual supplied at the time only with german delivered SB3's.

Suzuki Germany hand-build all german delivered SB3 to offer a fully finished motorcycle to their customers, complete with a spec-assembled GS1000 engine with 28mm Mikuni carburetors and K/ N air filters and utilizing the GS1000E wireharness, Gauges and electrics. The Bimota supplied Termignioni 4-1 exhaust was tuned in Rimini to the 28mm carburetors and K&N filters and conformed to german noise emissions to pass the stringent german TÜV.

One very unique aspect of these german Suzuki supplied SB3 was that the engines had no actual engine number, the field was left unstamped and blank where the engine number normally would have been. These engines were specially sourced and build in Japan at the Suzuki factory to be used only in the SB3 in Germany and only show the GS1000 designation without any follow-up number.

Also, as far as we have researched in 1979 Suzuki did not offer an entire engine as a spare for sale to anyone, other than Bimota. This effectively makes the german supplied SB3's and this specific bike No. 27, still brandnew, probably the rarest of not just the entire Bimota SB3's but also the rarest of all Suzuki build GS1000 models. It was also the most expensive bike available from Suzuki in Germany at that time with a list price of around 19. 900DM (German Marks).

This SB3 comes with its original owners manual, toolkit, keys and it still sits on its orignal M45/ M48 Michelin tires front and rear, both of which still have the knobbies on them. It is prepped for long term storage without fuel in the tank and carburetors and without any battery installed. Both, the front and rear brake systems have been serviced in 2016 for the technical inspection, and just recently again for the setup service to get the cold start video. The documents folder also includes all original advertising brochures from Suzuki of the period and even the original press release folder for dealers at the time. The bike has the original german title which does list Suzuki as the manufacturer. As can be seen in the video available on request, the bike starts up and runs properly, even from cold.

Additional info on technical details relating to new condition is that on this SB3 the original yellow zinc plating is still present on all 3 Brembo brake discs/ rotors. Due to these Brembo units being made from cast iron, they will discolor when subjected to regular humidity present in the air.

This coating applied at the Brembo factory is only meant to last until the first engagement of the brakes under load to 1. prevent new bikes from looking used and 2. prevent the rotors from developing rust while bikes are being shipped and stored.

Also worth mentioning is that this bike comes with both original sets of bodywork, the silver and red mounted items and the white and red block design set complete with a second original red seat packed up in a couple of very large cardboard boxes. So the new owner can display the bike in their collection and hang the second set of bodywork on thin wires right next to the bike (just a thought for a unique presentation)

Most of our bikes are the top models of the different manufacurers from the 1970-ies to the 1990-ies. Several bikes are rare pre-production versions, very rare prototypes or one-off builds, common to all is that they are in exceptional condition, run well and that there are no disappointments for potential buyers
