Description

Mercury Eight Coupe - 1951 Mercury's first post-war model, the Eight revolutionised American car design when it came out in 1949. Its pontoon design was unprecedented at the time, and it is thanks to this that the Eight is enshrined in the pantheon of Kustom Kulture. Under the bonnet, a 255 ci (4. 2L) flathead V8 was mated to a mechanical gearbox. In 1951, the first automatic gearbox made its appearance on a Mercury model. A true monument to American motoring, examples in very good original condition are becoming increasingly rare. The example we are offering is an exceptional 1951 Mercury Eight Coupe. Its 'electric' green livery is entirely in keeping with the period, and the grey cloth upholstery is also in keeping with the original. It is still equipped with its Flathead V8 and mechanical gearbox with overdrive, all in very good working order. For extra power, a vintage Rochester four-barrel carburettor and Edmunds intake are fitted. The structure is free of any corrosion, the paintwork has retained a beautiful sheen and the interior is close to perfection. Many period fittings are present, such as the Ford sun visor and fender skirts, which will be delivered with the vehicle. According to one of the brand's clubs, there are only two examples in France in this configuration, one of which is available here. An opportunity not to be missed!
