Description
CHEFFINS AUCTION HOUSE SOLD A 2 DOOR HILUX FOR £24, 120 ON OCT 19 2024.
THESE TRUCKS ARE GREAT INVESTMENTS IF THEY ARE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION AND PROPERLY LOOKED AFTER.
MY TRUCK IS THE HOLY GRAIL.
TIME WARP.
ORIGINAL.
UNTOUCHED.
A UNICORN.
PLEASE DON'T CONFUSE WITH AVERAGE TRUCKS.
I spent more than 2 years searching for the finest classic Hilux I could find.
This involved many wasted hours travelling far and wide to view over-described trucks that were nothing more than tarted up buckets of rust.
Blown over and misleadingly described as "excellent".
I love these trucks and decided I would not give up searching.
Then I saw this beauty.
My search was over.
This fabulous vehicle ticks all the right boxes.
The shiny white paintwork is original and straight and solid.
It's quite unbelievable.
Look closely at the photos and you'll see what I mean.
The decals are original and worn through due to polishing.
When did you last see this?
There no holes or rot.
Look at the sills.
They're 100% solid and original.
The interior is time warp.
Take a look at the original plastic flooring and the original rubber mats.
They never look this good.
With 4 previous, very careful owners this truck has obviously led a sheltered life.
Not used as a work vehicle and loaded with rubble.
The load area has the original, heavy duty Toyota plastic load area cover.
And it's not cracked or chipped.
The tonneau is original and is tightly held in place by the original struts that stop it from sagging.
When did you last see this ?
I've had the entire vehicle meticulously machine polished.
In a few areas the paint has worn though and metal is starting to show.
It all looks sensational and just right.
The original wheels have been carefully sandblasted and power coated to match the original colour.
Most people would have bought new wheels for less than this process costs, but I wanted it to be as original as possible.
There's 5 brand new tyres.
The original tow bar has been rewired to allow it to be hooked up and used.
The hood lining is perfect.
The steering wheel feels just right.
Everything about this truck is just right.
It needs nothing.
I have the original Toyota radio which is very rare but have replaced it with a period looking DAB unit.
Attention to detail is everything with this truck.
There's 3 areas I'd criticise...
I small dent in the front bumper which is being repainted.
THIS HAS NOW BEEN REPAINTED PROFESSIONALLY AND LOOKS PERFECT
A small scrape on the rear quarter.
A patch on the side of the drivers seat.
That's pretty much it.
They can easily be attended to but it's original and I've left it as it is.
The engine bay looks very clean and tidy.
A she drives like a new car.
Incredible.
Gear changes are smooth.
There's plenty of acceleration when you want it and she cruises so smoothly.
You could drive anywhere in this car.
I love the fact the large black, original TOYOTA letters on the rear tailgate are embossed.
Later examples aren't embossed.
They're stuck on.
She sits up exactly how she's supposed to.
Square and alert.
Like she's looking at you.
I have the original number plates although they're a bit cracked.
The current reg number will be removed when she's sold.
Finding a Hilux like this is like winning the lottery.
It simply never happens.
You'll occasionally find a nice car for £10-15K in auction.
But I'm not sure you'll find anything like this.
It even has the original arial which is working well with the DAB unit.
This is a car for an extremely discerning collector who appreciates originality and excellence and is prepared to pay a premium for such a rare animal.
A shrewd purchase.
This is a private sale.
I am not a dealer.
I expected to keep this car forever when I bought it.
The sale is unexpected and prompted by the opportunity to buy another car I'd like to own.
