I'm reluctantly selling my 1950 Harley Davidson FL Panhead 74-cubic inch 1200cc fitted with Cannonball Electric Starter from W&W Cycles (cost £5000 supplied & fitted).
My personal bike, professionally built in a Panhead/ Knucklehead style via my shop Skinny Choppers in North Yorkshire by myself and a mechanic/ engine builder with over 40 years experience.
The bike is stunning in a silver paintwork with gold swoosh, having had a complete frame up and engine rebuild. Perfect correct and original VIN and matching cases (see last pics). It has undergone a huge amount of work, full engine & gearbox rebuild (only 1000 miles on OEM rebuilt speedo by John Bordas) modern upgrades for reliability, rewired to 12V in vintage cloth wiring, E-Spark electronic ignition, N1 Shifter in gearbox (easy shifting), Pro Clutch, OEM '48 gas tanks with original badges and shifter, OEM Knucklehead '43 Kelsey-Hayes 18's star hubs with stainless spokes and Coker vintage tyres professionally balanced and trued, super rare OEM solo '39 seat with under-the-seat '49 guide lights, rare '39 rack, Fabers Cycles Stubby Speedster handlebars with bronze top fork clamp and Stelling & Hellings bronze risers, Hanson roll-up windshield... massive spec, too much to list here...
It would cost over £50, 000 (in parts alone) plus labour on top to build a Panhead to this spec - I have all the parts and costs listed in a spreadsheet and can email through to the buyer.
If you've never ridden a tank shift foot clutch, this particular setup with the N1 Shifter and straight slot gate is easier and safer to learn. Heal down to disengage the clutch and toe to go! All the way forward on the shifter lever for neutral. And if in a panic, you can disengage the clutch by pressing the pedal down on your heel. There's no advance and retard to worry about and the throttle operates like a normal bike.
I'm happy to give some lessons on a private road - it's easy to learn with some practice and super fun to ride!
Engine Rebuild info... Full engine rebuild including all new bottom end bearings, new crank pin, new pistons, new valves, valve springs, rebuilt rocker arms, new rocker box covers, std heads, new pushrods tubes, rocker covers, rebuilt s&s carburetor, rebuilt oil pump. Lots of detailed pics of full rebuild can be supplied. I've added a few.
Gearbox rebuilt fitted with all upgraded parts including N1 shifter drum by Baker Drivetrain, Cannonball heavy duty throw out bearing and kickstart shaft, vintage pig snout kicker cover and Faber brass kicker pedal.
Correctly titled V5 in my name. All the nicest vintage and OEM parts and has been meticulously maintained.
We've had quite a few Panheads in the workshop over the years, but in our opinion, nothing looks or runs as good as my Pan. At 74 years old, she runs super smooth with easy tank gear shifting/ rocker clutch pedal control (with the N1 Shifter and Pro Clutch) and with modern reliability (12V brighter bulbs, Antigravity lithium battery, E-Spark ignition system) and push button starting (Cannonball Electric Starter) yet retaining the cool vintage look and OEM parts. Still retains a working kickstart (if you want to look cool) or just press the starter button and GO!
