Description
An unusual and rare bike to be found in the UK, this is a 1955 Ceccato Turismo 100, Engine size just 98cc and a little 2 stroke.
Purchased last year and registered by myself in the UK and now with a current V5c this bike was uncovered and purchased by the previous owner from a property on the border of Slovenia and Italy and transported to the UK.
It’s anybody’s guess to how long it was laid up, but the original owner had the good sense to spray the whole bike in a protective coating of some sort and as you may be able to see has saved it from serious deterioration. I have tentatively, with petrol removed some of it from the bike but still lots to remove.
When purchased the fuel taps were missing along with the petrol pipes but I managed to secure a pair of replacements from Italy and have fitted them along with ethanol proof pipes and is as far as I have got. Petrol tank looks to be in good condition, but have so far not got any farther with the restoration.
Engine has a good spark and after a quick spray of oil into the cylinder sprayed some easy start into the air filter to check whether the engine would run and it started first kick and sounded sweet, but I only ran it for seconds.
There’s obviously still things to do, but nothing major to get the bike on the road.
Chrome work has suffered over storage period, but doesn’t detract, and is without any serious corrosion. My plan was to leave it as is and ride it, but I have too many projects and something must go.
If you fancy a light project this winter and fancy something rather rare in the UK this could be for you. Parts are available for these bikes in Italy as a quick look on Ebay Italy will confirm. It’s an extremely original motorcycle with a lot of small design features only the Italians could have thought of.
Maybe a refreshing change from the usual Bantam / Villiers engine lightweights?
