Description
Introducing "Binxie" our charming vintage Austin Seven Special.
I bought this as a project car that had been stood for a while. The previous owner said it was a Cambridge Engineering body but I'm not sure if it is, however it is a professionally made hand wheeled aluminium body on a hardwood frame probably built mid 50s.
I have spent time checking, fixing and generally sorting it out this year.
So a quick run through of the car -
Chassis is 1937 shortened Ruby in amazing condition. Appears to have new front and rear cross members riveted in and new spring plates, dampers and rear springs. All brakes linings look new and the brakes are coupled. Front axle and steering is all good.
Engine has casting date 11-12-28 and appears to have had work done as the piston tops are very clean - see photo. I have rebuilt the dynamo and starter with new brushes. New speedo cable. Fitted a pull starter switch as the foot switch was unreliable. It has the Zenith T2 1372 carb fitted. Petrol tank looks like a replacement one. Previous owner had fitted new battery and radiator. Nice folding windscreen. The clutch was stuck so gearbox was removed. Clutch linings and bearing are like new. Have fitted toggle lever grub screws and new springs. Gearbox is '31 3 speed with ball change and works very well.
I have fitted 5x new tyres.
Also fitted a key switch and indicators which weren't fitted.
Proper upholstery and duck hood. Carpets are a bit worn.
I have repaint it in a lighter shade of BRG - Bs14 C39. Its a bit darker than the photos show,
Surprisingly lively to drive and the front brakes can be locked up if required to do so. Not a concours car but presentable and has its original features over 90 years old.
Ideal fun vintage car for the weekend. Message if you require further info. Payment by bank transfer.
Cheers, Steve
