Description
CLASSIC 1993 SAAB 900SE 3 DOORS HATCHBACK
THE APPEAL
A joy to drive this rare example of one of the last original Classic Saab 900.
With its unique cool styling and exceptionally well engineered the 900 of is one of the coolest cars of the 90s; Saab Sweden really knew how to build their cars.
A rare site on the roads today, it has became a cult favorite and appeals to those discerning drivers who like to drive something a little different with more personality than most modern cars.
The Saab 900 classics are extremely collectibles with prices increasing (see below comments on HOW MANY LEFT website), making this model an extremely good investment especially for a Saab enthusiast.
HISTORY
First registered on the 19th March 1993 and I’m the second owner from new having bought it from Saab Reading in January 1996.
Original owner's manual included and service book (records showing up to 1994 as after that i had mislaid it until a few days ago but dozens of invoices showing work and parts replaced since then).
I have hardly driven it over the past few years as detailed in the photos of most recent MOT certificates- as an example in September 2016 recorded milage was 153, 005, in September 2018 154, 331 and so on and in November 2023 156, 176.
THE INTERIOR
Complete and original interior with grey cloth upholstery which is good condition though some evidence of age-related wear.
Electric windows, seats, doors, mirrors and sunroof.
Grey carpets with new rubber over-mats.
Spare wheel and original tool kit.
Headliner was replaced by Saab in Epsom 2021
Removable Pioneer radio/ cd player was working until recently but not now, maybe a fuse?
THE EXTERIOR
Black gloss original paintwork, in good order but showing signs of age-related condition though it does look very smart.
Some rust blistering spots on the side of the bonnet.
Original alloy Saab wheels.
External trim is all there though showing sign of age related condition.
Rear foam-foam bumper is in good condition.
Recently someone decided to try and break the electric aerial which now doesn’t retract or extend. Haven’t got round to buy a replacement which looking on EBay should not be too expensive.
The underneath appears solid.
MECHANICS & MOT
1, 985cc 4 cylinder 16 valve low pressure turbo.
Smooth 5 speed manual transmission.
MOT until November 2025.
DEFECTS
Don't expect a mint condition 900 as, whilst still very good for it's age the car is over 30 years classic old so there are signs of sage related wear with various scuffs etc.
To be noted there are some cracks on the dashboard (see photo).
The nearside rear light cover is cracked.
Recently some bent the electric aerial and I have not got round to replacing it but looking on Ebay, electric aerial appear readily available.
The removable radio/ cd doesn't work; maybe a blown fuse?
It’s a pleasure to drive with no know mechanical issues.
It’s always been a super reliable car more than capable for daily use and long distance driving having.
WHY AM I SELLING IT?
I had never thought of selling (I’ve had it for 30 years) but since Kan has extended the ULEZ zone to where we live I can not afford to pay the ULEZ charge every time I drive (and I have nowhere to store it until it's 40 years old and becomes exempt) it otherwise I a would not be selling it.
The 900 is great to drive, exudes coolness and with only 46 recorded licensed 900se on the UK roads in the 2024 Q1 as per the “HOW MANY LEFT” website, it will certainly became even rarer and definitively a collector’s classic.
My Saab is in good mechanical condition with no apparent or known mechanical issues.
Overall a lovely example of this collectible, timeless classic.
Thank you for looking and hopefully I have covered all the major points to describe my Saab.
Bought as seen with no warranties and happy to answer any questions you might have. HISTORY
