Description
we are proud to offer for sale, our super rare 1981 Jeep Renegade CJ7. Please no more time wasters, who agree a deal, don’t come and view and then disappear!
Our rare Jeep appears to have been in the UK since new in 1981. Over the years its benefitted from significant expenditure and restoration.
Its ready to show and enjoy, what a cool truck to keep at a holiday home, we can of course help recommend exporters etc.
Those of us old enough to remember classic American TV shows like the A Team, Dukes of Hazard and The Fall Guy, grew up watching CJ series Jeeps on our screens every Saturday night. CJ7 Renegades rarely come on the UK market, now is your chance to own a real one!
CJ series Jeeps can trace their lineage back to the legendary Jeep of World War 2. It comes with a rugged SR - 4 speed manual gear box, and high / low range four wheel drive. In the States modified CJ7’s are often used for mud racing and rock crawling (have a look at You Tube and lose a couple of hours, what they make them do is incredible).
A breakdown of its VIN number confirms our Renegade was built in the Jeep plant in, Toledo Ohio, in 1981. Has a 258 cubic inch (4. 2 litre) petrol engine, manual gearbox, with the higher spec 4150 ld gross vehicle weight. Many have been engine swapped, but I’m pleased to say ours still has its original mechanical spec today.
The values of these rare trucks is climbing fast, (according to Hagerty their average price has increased by 136% in the last 5 years) as they become more and more collectable in the States, they also have a big following in main land Europe. I guess just like 1980’s Fords here, as those of us born in the 70’s, reach the age where we can relive our youth!
Our LHD Renegade, has only had 5 UK keepers in the last 40 plus years, its last enthusiastic owner, having had it for 8 years, his recent You Tube video about the Jeep can be seen below (check out his channel too, he does some really cool stuff :
- details above
Our rare Jeep (YBD194W), was registered in the UK on 01/ 06/ 1981, it is correctly registered as a “Historic Vehicle” and as such is MOT, road tax and ULEZ exempt.
The Renegade comes with many old MOT’s, plus its HPI report allow us to chart its use:
In its first 3 years, it was well used, by July 1984, it had already travelled 63k miles.
In 1994 it was completely re painted inside and out, from its original colour of Olympic White, to the eye catching and Copper Brown Metallic (its very metallic). .
Its usage then declined, whilst remaining in regular use until 2006, having by then travelled 90k miles.
Our Renegade was then off the road between 2006 and 2014.
A programme or restoration and improvement then took place, once completed, its most recent owner acquired it in 2017.
We are told its restoration, included many significant items, and included: another external respray, new decals, interior trim, new carpets, replacement full convertible / removable hood by Best Top, matching roll cage padding, dash clocks and switch gear, engine rebuild, CD stereo etc etc. We don’t have receipts for this labour of love, but its evident much money and attention to detail was invested to create our striking looking and sounding Jeep today! Our Renegade has not yet travelled a thousand miles since.
The Jeeps most recent owner of 8 years (serial Land Rover restorer and expedition camper builder), as he mentions in his video, spent a further significant sum, plus his time beefing up the Jeeps appearance and off road ability:
New wheels - Black D Window Wheel, 15 inch X 8 inches / 5 x 5. 5-inch bolt pattern, new Mud Terrain tyres BF Goodrich, Wheel Spacer x 4, 2x Sway Bar Link CJ, painted chassis and underside in body under seal, new door striker kit - left and right, rear bumperettes, Pro Comp 4" Suspension Lift, CJ (K3064) includes leaf springs and shocks.
Our CJ7 is ready to be enjoyed, perfect for Sundays out, car shows, trips to the beach, and would be awesome to keep at a holiday home in the sunshine. Remove the doors and hood, fold down the wind screen and get ready for the sun!
YBD194W, was first registered on 1/ 6/ 1981, it has covered approximately 91k miles from new. Its clocks were changed as part of its restoration in 2016, and has covered 815 miles since.
In the compressive file there are a number of receipts for routine maintenance and servicing, its most recent owner, was handy with the spanners and maintained it himself.
Our Renegade is “Big” and whilst not particularly “Quick,” with the original grunty 4. 2 litre petrol engine (runs on E5 unleaded), brilliant sound track, high up driving position, open cock pit etc it feels quite “Quick” enough! Our super rare Jeep comes with, a number of rare spare / extra parts: Replacement rear sub frame with tow bar, matching rear seat and brackets, 2 further sets of doors (metal full doors that require restoration, and full height Bestop fabric doors that match the hood), Bestop Bikini Top / Duster Deck Cover / Windjammer, original leaf springs, and front seat covers.
It MOT history is also excellent, backing up its low mileage as genuine. Whilst its registered as a “Historic” we have just had it MOT’d and it’s most recent test expires on the 29/ 5/ 25 and was passed with no advisories. A large number of old MOT’s accompany the Jeep.
Our CJ7 Renegade is of course free on accident / insurance claim history, and copy of the HPI report accompanies the truck.
Our Jeep also comes with its original and super rare, Owners Manual, Maintenance Schedule, Emissions Warranty card, Warranty Service Policy card, 4 Wheel Drive Guide, a workshop manual, 2 sets of keys and immobiliser fobs.
Many thanks for wading through our lengthy description, we believe it’s better to describe our cars fully. It is not in our interest to waste your time or ours, with inaccurate descriptions. It does of course have the odd age related imperfection (which used car doesn’t), but for a Jeep of its age and mileage its brilliant, the only thing of note, is a small fluid leak from the gearbox area, it is of course over 40 years old! Any inspection is welcome.
Our Jeep CJ7 Renegade really does tick many QuickandBig. com boxes, being great value, well presented, comprehensively improved and maintained, super rare, appreciating in value and of course great fun.
