1980 Citroen HY Van Catering Conversion.
Having owned ‘Luna’ since the end of 2018 it now time to find a new home for our cracking little Van. Purchased as a coffee and waffle wagon we went about converting the inside to be more purposeful as a blank canvas for street food and outdoor dining. There is a Parry 800 griddle, undercounter fridge, twin sink with hot and cold running water and this van can be set up completely off grid with the use of it’s leisure batteries. Gas locker for 2 x 19kg lpg bottles The van has taken us from music festivals to garden parties to catering for BBC Top Gear and other location catering events. These little vans are always the ones people want to book based on their charm and patina. The van was originally converted by Dragon Classics in Wales, pairing it with their famous Ford Pinto engine along side the original three speed box, so no back yard engine swap, it was done by the best in the business. - details above van has been serviced every year and drives well, we don’t trailer this to any events and it has never let us down. We did have it weighed to make sure it could go on a 3. 5t trailer if needed so that is always an option but we like the charm of driving it to each events as well as the excitement of the customers seeing it arrive. In the winter of 2022 we decided to undertake some preservation work so that this truck has year of life left in it. We knew we didn’t want a ‘showroom’ finish as the biggest compliment that the truck gets is about its charm and patina. We worked with a local body shop to undergo the best route. This involved a full rub down, welding and filling where needed and then resprayed in Land Rover old English White mixed with Raptor Tough paint ensuring that we kept some of the patina while offering years of protection to the body work. We also had the underside welded where it was needed near the seatbelt points. We also had Rick Pembro ‘The Citroen Guy’ come and overhaul the brakes, adjusting the handbrake and replacing the master cylinder and copper rear brake pipes. While he was there he gave the van a once over giving a full bill of health. It has never had fryers in it so it’s no greasy catering van. Interior of the cab is great and we have the matching tan leather engine cover too. It has been a great van and served us well but unfortunately it isn’t getting the use it deserves and wedding catering is taking up the majority of our time. As well as running off grid it can be connected to 240vPreviously branded up as ‘Luna’ and more than happy to sell as a blank canvas or with the Luna signage, Instagram etcNeeds to be seenTax & Mot Exempt
