1989 Porsche 944

Porsche 944 2. 7 Luxe 165bhp in Baltic Blue (surely the best colour?). Baltic Blue interior with blue half leatherette seats and Studio check inserts. Electric windows, door mirrors, sunroof, seats. ABS & power steering. Blaupunkt Essen CD/ DAB/ FM/ Bluetooth/ handsfree stereo unit. Thatcham Cat 2 Autowatch 239T Immobiliser., 16" 944 S2 alloys.
Bought privately by me 4 years ago from previous owner. Selling due to change of job role and company car on the way, can't keep 2 cars..
Loads of history back to 1993. Porsche manual, service history book with dealer stamps to 1995. Thereafter bills for work done by known specialists Autobahn, Hartech and Zuffenhaus to present day. Haynes manual. Owners log for last 4 years. Original 2 sets of keys. Just got full MOT (@Sept 2024).
Michelin Pilot Exalto tyres, fronts have done ca. 12, 600m, rears ca. 5600m all in good condition with plenty of tread.
Highlights of work done in my ownership (plus more service work documented):
2021: track rod ends, new gear change linkages front and back, poly bushes fitted throughout to suspension.
2022: Reconditioned gearbox, 2 new front suspension top mounts, Bilstein B6 shock absorbers front and back,
2023: New Blaupunkt Essen ICE unit fitted professionally.
2024: Major service, belts change, new water pump, new oil filter mount gasket. Rear brake pads and wear sensors.
Immensely rewarding car to drive, with package of handling power and feedback to driver. A true practical classic with surprising luggage room in the back - a 3 door hatchback almost. Often admired.
Very solid and well-maintained car. Interior in very good condition with no rips to seats etc.
Let me point out the niggles:
Some corrosion which it would be worth catching to preserve the car condition in due course: Front wheelarch inside lip is showing early corrosion. Bottom of same wing behind front wheel also has corrosion. There is a small patch of rust half way along offside outer sill.
A scuff to paint on lower rear offside bumper right down behind rear wheel. A small scuff to nearside front bumper low down forward of wheel.
The alloy wheels are very sound and free from dings but would benefit from refurb in due course, especially the nearside rear one.
The tailgate opens with key but the cable release needs adjustment to allow release from drivers side of cabin - there are good Youtube how-to's on this. I bought a good example of this practical classic as I wanted one car to do my commute to work plus social driving. 2 seats, versatile luggage space, solid straightforward car to have affordably serviced by independent Porsche specialists. Spares availability is very good both new and secondhand. A thriving owners scene, the ones I've met love these cars like I do. The S2 shape is a great looking car, often taken for one significantly younger. It's nimble and with it's 50/ 50 weight distribution, front engine but rear wheel drive, drives and handles beautifully. Its "analogue" simplicity is refreshing after the fully-loaded heavier modern cars which I might have seen as alternatives. Unfortunately I need a company car for work now so this one has to go, hopefully to someone who will enjoy it.
