Description
Delayed construction of this car and it's subsequent order cancellation gave Sydney Allard the opportunity to have this car converted
to RHD for his own personal use. (Lush p. 169). Fitted with Cadillac 331cu. in 5420cc V8 and 4 speed Hydramatic automatic transmission, DeDion rear axle and the J2X type front suspension and braking system. I believe the car shown in Lush. p. 149 to be the this car with an inaccurate photo title. This car was 1 of 10 or so P2 Monte Carlos built, most of which were flathead Ford engined and with full tilt front bonnet assemblies. Very few had this car's conventional seperate opening bonnet. Finally registered at the end of 1956 and remaining with Allard until 1958 when friendly persuation from good Allard customer and friend, Eric Alexander, prompted the move of the car to his small stable of Allards then comprising a Lemans bodied J2X Cadillac and an M type DHC, all of which are described by Bill Boddy in Motor Sport magazine of July 1958 under the tiltle 'A tale of 3 Allards'. It seems very likely that Alexander and his lady friend used the car in competition, although it is diffcult to seperate the exact vehicle in use at any one event due to the P2 and J2X both being Allards, Cadillac engined and 5420cc! After 4 years or so the car passed on to yet another well known Cadillac man, John Williams, who also ran several J2Xs over the years, and still owning one at the time of this latest purchase. Williams did engage in some motor sport activity with the car, and reported a 2nd in class to a Jaguar saloon at Castle Farm Hillclimb in an AOC newsletter. Alas, Williams passed away at a relatively young age and the car was laid up for some years before his widow contacted the AOC with regard to it's finding a new home, which it did some time in the early 80's, and since when, having changed hands once more, has had little attention aside from small restoration of dash and instruments, removal of paint and some preservation work on the original trim. Good aluminium body, tubular chassis and ash frame requiring very limited local repair,
Original log book and V5C in my name.
