The Renault Sport Megane R26. R is a very special limited-edition hot hatch, described by Evo as “the most significant hot hatch of the last 25 years”.
The engineers at Renault took the already special Megane R26 & reduced the weight by 125kg, this being achieved by removing the rear seats, replacing the front seats with Sabelt racing carbon buckets & full harnesses, changing the rear/ rear-side windows with polycarbonate & bonnet with naked carbon fibre, plus many other small alterations, the cost of each car rumoured to be in excess of £100k to develop & manufacture.
230 examples were produced for the UK market of which this is number 156.
The engine is a turbocharged 2. 0-litre inline-four, delivering 227bhp and 230lb-ft of torque to the front wheels through a six-speed manual transmission.
It has black metallic paint, gloss red wheels and the very important factory fitted options of roll cage and full titanium exhaust.
First registered in September 2009, it has been with the me for over 10 years and thought I would never sell it, but with a new baby it hasn’t been used very much & this is unlikely to change.
The purchase price will include my car specific number plate R26 RGB. In recent years the car has been cared for and serviced by specialist garage Aeon Sportscars. I have spent almost £5k keeping the car in good shape, the more major items include upgraded suspension rubbers front/ rear & engine mounts with Polybush handling pack, painting subframe braces in satin-black, bigger front brake discs with floating rotor/ aluminium bell & new EBC yellow stuff pads, new Michelin PS4S tyres & July’24 new cam belt & water pump.
The current MOT was carried out 31. 5. 24 at 39, 486 miles.
