1988 C900i 8v in Rose Quartz with Bokhara Red interior. Registered Jan 88, but manufactured in 1987.
MOT until 29 Nov 2024.
Only 71, 584 miles on the clock with history to back that up, with only 6 keepers on the V5 including myself, this is my second period of ownership, so it has only had 5 different owners.
This is a reluctant sale as my intention was to keep this C900 as an all year round classic, but because my 99 EMS failed to attract any interest when offered for sale, I have now decided to keep that and offer this one up instead. I’d love to keep both as I really like how this SAAB drives, but I only have a single garage space. Plus, I do not have the time or energy anymore to look after two classics.
The car - The first keeper purchased the car from Reg Morris SAAB near Doncaster on 20 Jan 1988, he kept the car until 2001.
The second keeper, an ex-SAAB technician (known to me) purchased the car in 2001 and owned it for 20 years, in the latter part of his ownership the car was garaged as he could no longer drive due to ill health.
In 2021 it was transferred to a friend of the second owner’s family (3rd keeper) and garage owner who put it back on the road.
I purchased the car from this chap in early 2022.
I sold it to the 5th keeper in Jan 2023, he offered it back to me due to ill health, so I purchased it back in June of this year.
There is an extensive history file with servicing and work being carried out at Reg Morris SAAB until 2001.
After which it was maintained by the second keeper (receipts for parts in history file) who as mentioned earlier was an ex-SAAB technician (Mallet SAAB), plus receipts from the local SAAB specialist for some works.
The car was laid up in 2012/ 13 before being recommissioned and put back on the road in 2021.
In my ownership I carried out further recommissioning works including paint and bodywork rectification work (see below).
The interior is in excellent condition apart from the headlining which now requires replacement (currently pinned up). The dash top is in good condition with just one minor crack.
A walnut dash front was fitted by the second keeper, but I do have a very good black dash that will come with the car. I was going to change it back to black.
It retains the original dealer fit Philips stereo and Philips rear speakers which were fitted from new, it also has a fully functional electric aerial. It is also fitted with dealer fit Bosch fog lamps and immobilizer. There are also driving lamp brackets fitted above the bumper. The original handbook pack and tool kit are present, and it still wears its supplying dealer rear window sticker and tax disc holder.
During my first period of ownership, I fitted a SAAB three spoke steering wheel and obtained a full set of SAAB rubber mats in a colour that suits the interior. I also had all the flexi brake pipes replaced with HEL braided hoses.
The bodywork is in very good condition apart from some small rust bubbles forming on the leading edges of the front wheel arches (see photos) and the inner driver’s door bottom. They are not too bad and have certainly not gotten any worse since my first period of ownership. There are also some small scratches and a few stone chips consummate with the age of the car, but nothing that really stands out. During my first period of ownership, I had some rust cut out of the offside rear arch (both outer and inner) this was professionally welded and repaired using the correct repair panel. It was then finished and repainted professionally (see photo’s). The total repair cost for the arch being £800.
Driveshaft tunnels and boot corners are all good, one drive shaft tunnel was repaired for the last MOT.
Bumpers are very good without any scuffs, which is rare for a C900 with the later bumpers. They also retain all the original bright inserts.
Mechanically all is good and drives very well. The last owner had the injection system overhauled by a Porsche K-jet specialist, and new braided fuel lines were fitted at the same time. He also had the gearbox drained and refilled. He used the SAAB for a couple of classic car club trips across to France during 2023.
Wheels are the desirable and rare rear handbrake Ronal Silver spokes (SAAB Minilites). These are all in good condition with good tyres on all four wheels.
The car also has a full stainless steel exhaust system fitted.
The asking price is £3750 with a fresh MOT.
I will take near offers if sold with the current MOT. For info it’s only covered 200 miles since the last MOT test. I'll also include a few used C900 spares and some touch up paint as well as the black dash front mentioned earlier.
If your quick it will also come with a ¾ tank of fuel, but I will use the SAAB for my next meet if it does not sell beforehand, therefore that may drop slightly.
