Sunbeam Lion 1933 - 600 cc - side tank gear change . Fully recommissioned to go but it’s not been started in a while so please bear that in mind . This bike will need coaxing back into life and to be owned by an enthusiast who likes tinkering . All part of the fun . She is complete with original leather tool bags and period fittings and good decent tyres. The phrase “it's only original once” has a resonance with me as it’s the way I like to see vehicles if possible. My Lion is a perfect example of an unrestored treasure dating to 1933 and looking like it’s been used and loved every day since. Its patina is a wonder to behold and it oozes character and history from wheel to wheel. Imagine where it’s been and what its riders have seen in all these years .
You’d really struggle to find another like this as many survivors have needed to be fully restored to save them. Not so this beauty and I hope its new owner would want to keep it in the dusty and oily rag condition you see it in today.
It comes with a current V5 in my name showing two former keepers and i also have the original buff logbook . According to the post office stamps in the log book it’s lived most of its life in Wales.
Now residing in Nottingham the new owner would have to collect as I don’t have the means to deliver it. If you want to be part of an ever increasing following of unrestored classics this has got to be the bike for you. Engineering which provided plenty of low down grunt from a pre war classic. A riding experience like no other and designed in arguably the zenith of motorcycling ownership which included Brough Superiors , Velocettes and other legendary icons of the age .
I have a Velocette in similar condition and an old Austin Somerset in a garage which can only house two out of the three. Sadly she drew the short straw . What a decision to have to make but needs must
