Description
I am reluctantly selling my 1992 diamond blue facelift XJS (3980cc). I have loved and cared for this car over the past 13 years and it shows. It drives beautifully with a smooth gearbox and plenty of power from its straight six engine.
It has a long service history at Jaguar garages and more recently by a local Jaguar enthusiast who says it is one of the best XJS engines he has known. Over the past 12 years, I have spent thousands of pounds keeping the car in tip top condition so this model is far from the clunky rust buckets that are most XJS for sale. I can show all the service history and invoices for work done, which recently includes a new headlining and console panel.
In the past 12 months, I have also spent £1, 700 on body work, removing rust spots on the doors and replacing edges to the doors and wheel arch corners. The bonnet, wings and doors have also been resprayed. To the best of my knowledge, there is now no rust anywhere on this car.
In total, there are 89, 100 miles on the clock but it has only driven 3, 000 miles over the past five years, clocking up just 300 miles in the past twelve months.
The MoT expires in December but given how little it has been driven over the past eight months, there are unlikely to be any issues. If necessary, I would be happy to complete a new MoT before sale.
The car also comes with two keys, a spare tyre and full Jaguar tool box. Inside, the car benefits from working electric seats and windows. It also has a new radio with CD player and USB connection but I kept the original radio and tape player, which I will provide in the sale should you want to put it back in.
For the past three years, the car has been stored outside but under a breathable, moltex cover supplied by the Jaguar Enthusiasts Club at a cost of £200. The car also comes with a private number plate, A4 PBD, which itself is worth hundreds of pounds.
While the car is in excellent condition generally, there are a few issues I would like to highlight in the interests of full disclosure. The onboard digital clock / computer no longer works, nor does the onboard lighter. I am sure both could be fixed but I never thought it was worth the money as the radio has a clock and I don’t smoke. Two small cracks have also appeared on the console panel, which is frustrating as it is less than two years old ! The right side of the driver’s seat is also quite worn as per the photo.
On the outside, there are also a couple of minor blemishes to the body work and some of the lacquer on the lattice wheel hubs is peeling. The aerial at the back also no longer extends outwards (if it ever did) but this does not appear to affect the radio's reception.
Other than that these minor issues, this car is in wonderful condition. I am only selling it because I live in London so I have to pay a £12. 50 Ulez charge every time I use it and my local council is also about to massively ramp up the cost of a parking permit for cars with big engines so the costs are just too high for me at the moment sadly. If I lived outside of London I would not be selling.
The facelift model is widely recognised as the most reliable of the XJS series and the 4 litre, straight six version is the most economical. It is, in my opinion, also the best looking XJS.
In summary, my beloved XJS has to be one of the best on the market right now and given its good condition, I believe I am pricing this car fairly to sell. So if you are looking for a well maintained XJS that requires no work and at a reasonable price, this could be the one.
I am happy to do test drives but at a cost of £12. 50 because of the Ulez charge.
The mobile signal is quite dodgy where I live so if you cannot get through just message me. Thanks.
