Description

A very special bike being one of the first batch of A65's, the 25th bike built.

Supplied new by Fowlers of Bristol who are still in business today and registered on the 26th March 1962, excitingly it still has its original logbook with a record of first keepers and retains the original transferable registration of 771 OHW. Better still it has the correct engine and frame it left the Birmingham Small Arms plant with in ’62 (A65’s did not share matching engine and frame numbers until 1966) Heritage certificate included.

Between 2013 and 2015 it underwent a comprehensive nut and bolt restoration to show standard at considerable expense, the result today is likely one of the nicest useable A65’s available. The restoration being carried out by a local engineer and classic bike enthusiast, the decision being made to restore after finding out it was an early, low frame number bike. All documented with invoices and receipts kept. Powder coated frame, wheels rebuilt with stainless spokes and new tyres, new/ rebuilt suspension, all bearings and bushes replaced. The engine and gearbox were treated to a complete strip down, vapour blasted and rebuilt with clearances carefully checked and sensible upgrades such as an SRM oil pump and Wassell electronic ignition added to aid reliability, believed to still be on its standard bore with the old standard size pistons boxed up and kept for proof.

Rides very well as you’d expect, it’s just had a thorough service and checkover after doing some shake down miles, starts first kick and makes all the right noises a good A65 should, remarkably oil tight for a British bike.

An important bike in British history and one that deserves to still be around in another 62 years, not to be missed and sensibly priced at £4950.

Located in Aberdeen 15 mins from the train station and airport, any inspection welcome, delivery possible, call rather than message to discuss further or arrange a viewing, thanks.
