Description
This is my freshly restored, matching numbers 1978 T140E, I bought this last winter as a complete, unmolested low mileage American import, in generally very good all round condition but had stood for many years and a full strip and refurbishment was required to bring it back into the superb condition you see in the pictures.
The engine was found to be in excellent unworn condition, as a matter of course I changed the piston rings and valve springs, it is still on standard bore backing up the low mileage, the clutch has been stripped, checked and fitted with new springs and friction plates due to their age. The gearbox had to be opened up to facilitate the replacement of the neutral light switch so while it was apart the gearbox was checked and again found to be unworn and in fine fettle.
The frame has been stripped to bare metal, this has been done by hand, I do not have T140 frames blasted as their oil bearing nature make it far too risky, it has along with the swing arm and all other black components been sprayed in 2k etch primer and several coats of super shiny hard wearing 2K high solids black, unlike powder coat which has a plastic like appearance this looks factory but is far superior
The front forks have been refurbished with new springs, seals and stanchions
The rear shock absorbers are new
The tyres are brand new Dunlops front and rear
Downpipes are new
Grab rail is new
Indicators are new
As you will see from the pictures there are loads of new parts on this bike
The brakes have been refurbished with new seals and pads, both master cylinders have been rebuilt
The wiring loom has been completely replaced, the battery is new, it is running a boyer ignition system with the correct 6V coils, it also benefits from a solid state regulator / rectifier unit, all of this is essential for maximum reliability.
The fuel tank is a brand new Harris item as the original was a bit too rusty inside, I could have fitted a liner but I like to do the job properly and a brand new UK made tank was the only way to achieve this.
All of the tinware has been painted in stunning purple which is contrasted by cream in polyester base coat with gold pinstripe, then 6 coats of the best 2k lacquer were applied to give a long lasting durable and of course petrol proof finish, it looks fantastic.
The list of new parts is quite extensive, every component was evaluated and either refurbished or replaced. The results as you can see from the pictures speak for themselves.
The bike starts easily hot or cold it runs and rides beautifully, it’s free from smoke or rattles and is oil tight, it’s currently taxed insured and on the road, it is UK registered in my name as historic so tax and mot exempt, it is matching numbers and showing just 17600 miles which although it is impossible to prove I believe to be genuine, this may increase a bit as i'm currently using the bike.
