1983 Alfa Romeo Alfa 6 2. 5 Automatic. (Series 1)

Being sold from my private collection of Continental and Classic cars, as I have ultimately made the decision to sell off my entire collection inventory, including my Alfa 6 Sedan.

The subject car, a 1983 Alfa Romeo Alfa 6 2, 5 Auto 119 Series, now comes to the market for the second time since being acquired in 1983 by the then Alfa Romeo Italy subsidiary, Alfa Romeo South Africa (ARSA)
Later owned by the former Financial Director of ARSA, Dr Di Terlizzi of Johannesburg, Transvaal, South Africa.
A very interesting and special aspect of this Alfa 6, is that it was the original launch car used by Alfa Romeo SA to launch the Alfa 6 model to South Africa.
Unveiled to the media, a few dignitaries, and special guests at very a glamorous launch held at the prestigious Mala-Mala Private Game Reserve. Also later featured in the official marketing of the model by ARSA, and eventually acquired by its long-term owner Dr Di Terlizzi.

Being specifically ordered by ARSA for the model launch, the Alfa 6 was specially supplied by Arese in Blu Olandese over Pelle Grigia Nappa leather interior, with Merino wool carpeting, Boletti climate control, electric windows and fully automatic ZF transmission, limited slip differential and Campagnolo alloys. Thus, giving the Alfa 6 a truly unique specification.

Apart from this special history, the 6 Sedan has really been cared for amazingly, it presents as a low Kilometre, time warp car. Having spent the most of its life on The Witwatersrand of South Africa, in a temperate and dry climate, at 1800M above sea level, the 6 has zero signs of rot or corrosion and is a dry state car. Benefitting from limited and careful use.
The interior is today still a lovely place to be, the seats are supportive and firm, the aroma of the Nappa hide fills the cabin, all switches, gauges, trim, and accoutrements are in fine order and show no signs of wear.
The boot area is equally impressive, not only is it cavernous, it also keeps the 5th alloy, still with its original Pirelli tyre, wheel jack and other hazard equipment.

Mechanically the 2. 5 litre, V6 engine is in superb order, breathing through 6 Dellorto down draught carburettors, the moniker “The Violin of Arese” is truly suited to this sonorous machine, the first car to debut the Busso V6, as Alfisti now lovingly call the heart, designed by Eng. Giuseppe Busso.
The V6 mill loves to work in the high rev range, and in no other iteration does it sound better, than its original carburetted design. It is smooth and powerful. The 3 speed ZF automatic transmission shifts smoothly in all up and down shift situations, delivering power via a limited slip differential to the rear wheels.
On the road the Alfa is a joy, great power steering and servo assisted brakes give it a sure feel. Taking the flagship car through bends and mountain passes shows just how well balanced the geometry and weight distribution of the vehicle is, achieved by torsion bar front suspension, linked to a De Dion rear axle with inboard mounted rear brakes.
The original 14-inch Campagnolo alloys are wrapped in Uniroyal rubber.
All light lenses, glass, trim and brightwork are in show condition, the paintwork is equally impressive, being a darker colour, the paint has achieved a deep lustre, highlighting the 6’s delicate overhangs and well weighted proportions.
Overall, the Alfa 6 is just a glorious machine, it is a driver’s car, and is an excellent choice to cover long distances at rapid pace. It is assured and competent, comfortable, and an ideal car for Continental touring. In the past twelve months, much work has been done to keep the Alfa running as it should, the following mechanical work has been completed by a marque specialist;

• Cam belt and tensioner.
• Fuel tank chemical clean.
• New fuel pump.
• Radiator rebuild.
• Complete brake and hydraulic system rebuild.
• Automatic transmission rebuild.
• Major service and tune up.

Very few Alfa 6’s remain today, and being one of the rarest post war production models by Alfa Romeo, the odds of finding one today are very slim, let alone a first series right hand drive, and even rarer still, a specially configured car in superb condition, both aesthetically and mechanically.
A network of dedicated Alfa Romeo specialists exists in the UK, there an equally impressive Owners Club, the AROC, ensuring a prospective owner many happy events to attend with a most unique Alfa.
A special car, with a special history, deserving of any notable collection, your chance to own one of very few dry climate, right hand drive Alfa Romeo 6 2. 5 Sedans.
