Description
I have decided to sell my 300SL that I purchased earlier this year as I just have too many other vehicle projects currently and space is now becoming an issue. The car is a 1992 300SL with the M103 engine paired with the 4 speed automatic transmission. From what I understand, these earlier 300SL's did not suffer with the biodegradable engine wiring harness issues.
I purchased the car with it needing some work and it still does. The main issues being the roof currently does not work (I can hear the motor operating) but for some reason, the hardtop won't release electronically. I have no idea what condition the soft top is in as I have not removed the hardtop in my ownership. The front seats do not operate electronically either. I managed to manually adjust the drivers seat to suit my driving position but again, I haven't looked into the issue.
When I collected the car, I drove it 200 miles home and it drove lovely although the steering wheel is off centre so does require tracking doing. It also had a slight misfire which was resolved with new spark plugs and HT leads. I did notice in traffic that the temp was creeping up. Having had a look into this is requires a new fan clutch as it's very weak and will also need a good cooling system flush and fresh coolant.
Body wise it's very good overall, has a couple of small dents on the offside rear quarter panel which I have been told can be easily removed via paintless dent removal. The front and rear bumpers have a few scuffs here and there so ideally need painting but that's it. There's no rust, it's had the front wings replaced at some stage and although they are a lovely finish, the paint match is slightly off. The wheels are all in fantastic condition and look like they have been refurbished fairly recently.
The interior is a lovely grey matching the exterior and is in nice condition, no rips or tears in the seats, the wood trim is in good condition. it has had a more modern stereo added with Bluetooth connectivity.
I had the car MOT'd in June and it passed with no advisories. I bought the car with no paperwork unfortunately other than the V5 but I do have both keys. 5 previous owners listed on the V5.
With some time and money spent it will be a lovely car, it just needs an owner that can dedicate some more time to it than I can currently (I also have another R129 500SL that needs a lot of work) and I'd love to see it go to someone who will fix the issues and enjoy the car.
Many thanks,
Ben
