Are there any Volkswagen Corrado enthusiasts out there that would like to continue the life of N189 XCE after five years of ownership.
It was supplied new by Birch’s Garage (VW) Ltd, Milton Road, Cambridge and after its Pre-Delivery Inspection on 28/ 07/ 1995 it was registered 01/ 08/ 1995 to Mrs G Short of Cambridge. Two subsequent owners Mr. Sloan of Berkshire and Mr. Cove of Boroughbridge took care of the car before I became its custodian on 5th December 2019.
XCE is a 2. 0L 16 Valve model with 5 speed manual transmission, finished in LP3G Flash Red and cloth upholstery and is in standard specification with no modifications, currently showing 61, 300 miles, the registration document is present, in my name at my address.
It still has a great number of its original components including the Sony XR-6659RDS radio cassette player, although the cassette player is inoperative.
The original wallet is present which contains the service book which has 22 stamps, instruction manual, radio/ cassette player manual, and other literature.
XCE was also featured in the December 2019 edition of Modern Classics magazine, which was very positively commented on by the author, and I have a copy of the magazine.
When I purchased the car I went through the agreed valuation process with Lancaster Insurance, and the car currently has an agreed valuation of £12, 000.
I have compiled the previous owners, service and MOT histories of the car and the repairs and replacements that I have carried out using only OE or pattern parts to maintain its standard specification. The online MOT history shows continual passes apart from 2008 were it failed on just the n/ s/ f tyre.
The bodywork, glass, trim etc is in good condition, the interior trim especially the upholstery showing no excessive wear, cuts, tears or burns etc, the ashtray is clean and I would not be surprised if this car has ever been smoked in. The boot mat and rear parcel shelf are in very good condition, the headlamps, front indicators and front fog lamps are in very good condition and are fitted with protection, the rear lamps are also in very good condition showing good colour.
During Spring 2024 I refurbished the front and rear suspension, replacing the rear bump stops, gaiters and top mounts, and at the front the top mounts and bearings and I managed to source some OE spec TRW complete struts as the originals were corroded and weak in action. The rear hub bearings have been recently replaced with quality Timken bearings. The car drives very well indeed, with no excessive squeaks or rattles etc, which is testament to its build quality and low mileage.
The car starts straight away, hot or cold, pulls strongly and probably feels much like it did in 1995. The sunroof tilts and slides, and the rear spoiler works in both auto and manual modes. The fuel gauge though can be temperamental at times.
So, in conclusion XCE is free from any major issues and is ready for the next chapter in its history, I don’t think you would be disappointed, just as I have not been. If you are looking for a Corrado that you can just fuel up and use, and enjoy rides out and car meets then . XCE might be worth your consideration.
