Description

I’m selling my 1988 Porsche 924S, a car from the final year of production that features the 160hp 2. 5L inline-four engine from the Porsche 944, paired with a manual transmission. This car has been well-maintained and comes with an extensive and comprehensive history, detailing every aspect of its life.

Since owning the car, I've made several improvements. The sunroof gears have been upgraded to brass to prevent the common issue of gear teeth wear, and I’ve replaced the rear window struts. The power steering pump has been rebuilt, and the power steering belt replaced restoring full functionality to the steering. Additionally I replaced the alternator belt at the same time. The car passed its MOT in June 2024, and I can attest to its reliability, having driven it non-stop from Inverness to Leamington when I bought it.

The body of the car is solid, with the paint in very good condition for its age, showing only minor stone chips and age-related marks. The car has been garaged by at least the past two owners, and the condition of the sills suggests it has likely been stored indoors for most of its life. The pop-up headlights work reliably, and the car starts easily every time. At some point in it's recent history the Teledial wheels have been beautifully restored in metallic gunmetal and I received numerous compliments from other members of the 924 owners club over them.

Additionally the car comes with:
-Its original spare wheel
-Its original tool kit
-Its original tyre air compressor
-its original sunroof storage bag
-its original emergency jack stand

There are a few areas that could use attention. The exhaust’s final silencer back box has failed, causing a metallic rattle at idle, though this doesn’t affect the MOT. Additionally, a heat shield under the oil filter has come loose, resulting in a slight rattle at idle.

The interior is mostly in great condition. The dashboard is in outstanding condition due to having been garage stored. This means there is absolutely minimal cracking (a plague of this model) and the carpets front to back are next to immaculate. There are areas that show wear though, with the seat bolster seams coming apart as is common for Porsches of this age, there's a rip in the driver’s seat, and some reddening on the driver’s side rear seat.

Despite these issues, this Porsche 924S remains a well-loved and enjoyable car to drive, with a rich history and a strong foundation. If you're looking for a classic Porsche that’s only rising in value and ready for its next adventure, this could be the one. The Porsche 924S is the ultimate evolution of the 924 line, representing everything that Porsche learned and perfected throughout its production. As the final iteration, the 924S received the powerful 2. 5L engine from the 944, offering 160hp—a significant upgrade over the earlier models. While it might not be a rocket ship by today’s standards, what sets the 924S apart is how it delivers its power. This is a car that lets you fully experience driving pleasure without breaking the speed limit. You can rev it through second and third gear, really feeling the engine work, which makes even a simple drive an event to savor.

The handling is another standout feature. The 924S has a beautifully balanced chassis that makes every turn predictable and rewarding. It’s a car that feels connected to the road, giving you the confidence to enjoy a spirited drive, whether on a winding country road or just navigating through town.

For years, the 924S was overlooked in the shadow of its more famous siblings, but enthusiasts are beginning to recognise just how good this car truly is. It offers a pure, unfiltered driving experience that’s becoming increasingly rare in modern cars. The 924S is about the joy of driving, the connection between car and driver, and the satisfaction of using every bit of the car’s potential.

If you’re looking for a classic Porsche that delivers an authentic driving experience, the 924S is a hidden gem that’s finally getting the recognition it deserves. This is a car for those who appreciate the art of driving, not just the numbers on a spec sheet.
