Description
Made in 1971, this is one of the very last handbuilt, aluminium bodied, Rolls Royce Mulliner Park Ward 2-door Fixed-head Coupes - the bodies were hand-crafted for Rolls Royce by the legendary coachbuilders Mulliner Park Ward. Only 369 RHD examples were ever built between 1966 and 1971, and this is one of the very last ever made, as later in 1971 production was brought in-house by Rolls-Royce and the model was renamed Corniche. So this is truly a rare, and highly desirable collectors car.
It's features include unique MPW stylish door handles, stunningly-crafted Chippendale walnut dashboard and wooden steering wheel, and elegant chrome bumpers (unlike the crude rubber bumpers of later models). I've owned this eye-catching car for the past decade and during that time it has always been kept cossetted in a dehumidified/ heated garage. The vehicle has been extremely well-maintained, including a £40, 000 plus restoration in 2008.
This included a bare metal respray in the car's original factory colour, with replacement wings all round. The paintwork remains in impressive condition, with paint correction when needed maintaining its shine and depth.
A full re-chrome at a cost of over £4, 000 was also undertaken, and remains in excellent condition.
The leather interior is original and well-preserved with a patina that enhances the car and perfectly reflects its maturity.
Carpets throughout the cabin and boot are in absolutely excellent condition. The headlining is taut and well-maintained, with no drooping or sagging.
In my ownership most of the maintenance has been carried out by renowned Rolls-Royce specialist Shadow Motorcars.
Mechanically, the car drives superbly and has been extensively maintained regardless of cost. The most recent service and routine maintenance was carried out less than 100 miles ago at a cost of £3, 360. Prior to that I had the entire hydraulic brake system overhauled, as well as other repairs and improvements, at a cost exceeding £10, 000.
Factory fitted air conditioning is working well and enhances summer driving.
An extensive history file will be supplied with the car, with invoices dating back over 20 years, and the original owners handbook.
As a result of its comprehensive maintenance, the Rolls Royce is in exceptional condition: everything works as it should and the vehicle is ready to enjoy and drive or show at car events.
This elegant and rare Rolls Royce couple starts readily and drives effortlessly and superbly without fault, and will attract endless admiring glances and comments wherever you go.
