Fully restored 1973 VW Volkswagen Late Bay T2 Camper
Our much-loved and fully restored Volkswagen Late Bay/ T2 Camper Van is looking for a new home – her name is ‘Daphne’. She is a 1973 ‘Late Bay’ six-seater T2 campervan with a perfect colour scheme - ‘white on baby blue’ – more precisely ‘diamond white’ (slight cream tone) on guinea blue. She is now in excellent condition for a 51-year-old and is iconic, timeless, classy and stunning. She has been lovingly brought back to life with a comprehensive nuts-and-bolts restoration which took 3 years to complete. We have been part of her history for the past 7 years. It has been a fun and fulfilling journey, but ‘Daphne’ is now ready for new adventures with someone who will love her and take her on more trips than we can.
All parts of the mechanical, electrical and body restoration were carried out by exceptional professionals. See the photo showing parts purchased to gain an appreciation of the level of work completed. important highlights are as follows: new (reconditioned) gear box (600 miles ago) & big bore engine (3500 miles ago), new full wiring loom, many new panels (including full belly pan), new kitchen units, with quality sink and fresh/ wastewater, gas hob and fridge freezer. The split charger allows the fridge to stay cool when travelling. The electrical hook up is used for the fridge if staying overnight. The LED lighting in the roof is so low powered that it can be used overnight without any hook-up.
Six new seatbelts have been fitted and she achieved zero advisories on her last MOT. This age vehicle is MOT-exempt, but we will include a full MOT if wished in the asking price. The new, full-width rock and roll bed allows you to have a proper sleep.
Daphne has benefitted from improved handling due to the new heavy-duty handling kit. She now has a top-quality fuel tank, a full new wiring loom, refurbished wheels with classic ‘white wall’ camper tyres with stainless steel hub caps. Any rust was removed, panels replaced, and rust inhibitor applied during the restoration.
Car tax is free because of her age, insurance is relatively low – and she has an agreed valuation of £32000.
Security includes a ‘Gene Berg’ gear shifter with security lock and key. We have has also fitted with an isolation switch on the car battery. Further upgrades include a full set of high-quality, new door locks – importantly, all working on the one key.
New anti-slip flooring and headlining complement the units in the kitchen. Everything feels light and airy and there is plenty of room for storage – should you wish to bring family and friends along to enjoy the experience.
The cab area has had its dashboard also restored. It has an oil temperature gauge fitted - its sensor is on the oil dipstick. She has a retro style music player with USB/ blue-tooth and hands-free capability. Daphne has an amazing klaxon horn that shows off her character and makes everyone smile. She is fun, timeless, beautiful and jam packed with character. She is versatile and loved by all age groups. She is equally at home whether on a daytrip, full road trip or even attending a wedding. She will put a smile on your face when you are driving her. You will also quickly realise that she is putting a smile on everyone else in the vicinity with her characteristic timeless beauty and unmistakeable air-cooled sound.
