Description
A nice little bus not show room condition or concours... It runs beautifully on a 1500 engine. the original engine was replaced during it's life time by previous owners. My dad restored the bus himself some 7 or 8 years ago, a slow project, he did replace many parts we ordered from the U. K not original but reproduction according to our budget. Underneath is solid no rust, the outer body also good, some scratches .... the driver and passenger outer door handles we ordered but are somehow different so not fitted, will give them away to the new buyer. wipers, semaphores not ordered . new buyer to fit. Tyres are all new including the wheel caps. The bus is still standing on its original factory height.
brakes and hand brake restored all good, new fuel tank and fuel lines, carburetor serviced, lights all working except for the semaphores. Horn working.. I have the old speedometer from the bus, I replaced it with a later model for the fuel gauge... some oil leak from the engine bottom, they say, it's not a VW if it doesn't leak oil. The decals are all vinyl stickers including the front VW logo. Kindly, I'm selling the car as seen, as is where is, it's a buy and drive bus, please no warranty after sale. if you want to restore it and take it to the next level, I'll be very happy for you and the bus. Reason for sale is we hardly use it and since we have other projects to fund to complete, the bus has to go. Even in Kenya, this bus is a rare find, you don't come across this everyday, especially being one of the oldest one on the road.... That's what I love about it. The only history I know, when we bought this bus, it was parked unused by the previous owner since 1976 in a shed, I have photos of how it was when we found it, will share it with the new buyer. It was a site to see and the excitement to take it home quickly. An interesting fact to note, as mentioned in the ad title 1966, this bus is actually a 1956! From what I believe the bus was shipped to Kenya as a ckd and assembled locally and registered in 1966 as a 1966. It has a special vin which was punched by the local assembly at the chassis for the registration however the original German vin number is there punched on the bus in the engine room with the original German vin plate that proves it being a 56. Shipping can be arranged on buyers expenses, I'll be happy to assist in the process. If any interested buyer wants to view the bus personally, you are most welcome to come visit Mombasa, I'll come to pick and drop you off at the airport personally. Take you to see the bus, you can drive it and ill also show you all the interesting places in Mombasa. all meals Indian and Swahili dishes on me. :)
