Here is my 1989 Mk2 Golf, that I bought in January last year. Before me purchasing it, the car had one previous owner, who was an older gentleman. He bought the car new in 1989 from Listers Stratford Upon Avon. And since buying it new in 1989, he had only done 35, 000 Miles. In this time, he regularly took the car back to Listers in Stratford Upon Avon, for any work or services he had carried out.
When we bought the car, it had 35, 400 miles on it, and now it is on 36, 300. That increase of around 900 miles accounts for nearly half of the 2000 miles it’s done since 2014. And In my ownership, the car has had a new cambelt, water pump, and new tires all round.
By looking at the rear seats in the car, it’s safe to say they have never been sat in, or used. Along with the rear seats, the front seats show no sign of wear, and both have firm bolsters. Inside the engine bay, you will notice a black residue on the inner wings and strut towers. This is from the previous owner, where he went over the car and waxoiled it. But thanks to this, the car is rust free, and boasts its immaculate paintwork.
In terms of using the car, it’s a dream to drive, and it starts on the key as you would expect. The brakes are responsive, along with the clutch and throttle. The car also has its original sound system and radio, so you can even listen to that whilst driving.
Upon me buying the car last year, the plan for it was that it would be my sons first car once he passed his driving test. But after passing recently, Insurance Hurdles for him have left us no choice but to sell the car.
Just one look at this car in real life, or through the pictures, you can tell how special of a car this is. It gets looks everywhere it goes, with people often commenting on how original it is. I really do think you would be troubled to find a cleaner, and more original mk2 in the country.
