According to the Alfa Romeo archives in Milan the Certificate of Origine states that chassis AR 1695249 was manufactured on the 8th February 1969 and sold on 20th June 1969 to Johannesburg, South Africa originally painted in Alfa Red with a Black Skai interior.
This stunning car is believed to have been owned since the 1970s by a single family. In 2019 an Alfa Romeo restorer in Johannesburg was commissioned to totally restore the car. During the restoration the owner requested that the car be finished in Spino Bianco over a renewed red leather interior with red canvas hood, rather then the original red over black and seeing the end result that choice was an inspired one.
At the end of the restoration the family’s circumstances had changed and they reluctantly sold the car to the restorer who subsequently sold the car to me to so I could add it to my collection of 105 Alfa’s here in the UK. I then imported this beautiful car in early 2023 and enjoyed the car throughout the summer and again this Summer where I drove it to National Alfa Day a few weeks ago where it attracted many favourable comments. In fact an identical car won best in show.
The car runs beautifully and is in excellent order as to be expected of a recent overhaul. The paintwork looks lovely with the body being in very straight, original order having lived a dry life in South Africa. The interior has been refurbished with the seats having been recovered in Red Leather with new Black carpets, but the car remains largely original with the original Veglia instruments remaining intact and fully operational. The underneath of the car is as good as the top and is painted in body colour and also presents in fine order. Mechanically the car is in fine health thanks to a full engine overhaul and runs beautifully. As part of the restoration there was a suspension rebuild and brake overhaul including a new servo and much more.
In total I have only driven 500 miles during my ownership and with other restorations under way it’s time for a new custodian.
