Description
For sale/ swap/ part exchange.
My 1971 Ford Corsair V6 in beautiful Blue Mink Metallic.
I’m the 6th owner since import from South African in 2016.
5 speed manual.
80, 284 miles, not warranted, and will increase as still being used.
This is not an original factory spec. car, but could be put back to original with a little bit of time and a small amount of money.
Limited paper history, but is well known in the Corsair owners club, with some members being previous owners.
Car is located in Prestwich, north Manchester, 5 mins off the M60 motorway.
Positives-
Beautiful Blue Mink colour.
1 key operates all locks and ignition.
No welding evident on the car, underside is in excellent condition, as well as the inner wings and strut tops.
Interior re-upholstered, RS style sport seats with rare and very expensive RS fishnet headrests. Replacement headlining and carpets.
Rear seatbelts have been fitted.
Larger aluminium radiator fitted with twin electric fans, so no overheating issues.
New DGAS Weber carb fitted within the last 18 months or so.
Recent service with new oils for engine, gearbox and diff. New plugs, thermostat, temp sensor.
Fabulous looking Cyclone chrome wheels with matching tyres (I also have a set of rostyle wheels with good tyres available as an alternative if you prefer, see last 2 pictures, car price with rostyles £8500. 00).
Good heater, blows hot and cold.
Replacement rear silencer in stainless steel.
ULEZ exempt, zero Road Tax, MOT exempt, but fully roadworthy.
A truly admired old Ford, expect lots of attention as apparently everybody’s dad has owned one.
Negatives -
Rev counter not working (electronic ignition fitted).
Amp gauge not working. (alternator and battery in good working condition).
Small amount of corrosion on rear C posts and scuttle (see pics).
Small amount of corrosion on front offside scuttle (see pic).
Slight leak from nearside front strut insert (replacement supplied, not fitted).
Gear lever bushes worn (replacement gear lever supplied, not fitted).
Dash has a small crack on the top (replacement supplied, not fitted).
Wooden dash would benefit from a sand down and re-varnish.
Starter and horn are aftermarket buttons fitted to the lower dash panels.
Indicator does not self correct on left turn, but I managed to obtain an expensive new “old stock” indicator which will be included in the sale.
Some of the rubber seals are starting to show signs of age, but front and rear screen rubbers have been renewed by a previous owner and in great condition.
Please remember this is a 53 year old classic. It will not drive like a modern car. It has no PAS, the brakes are not servo assisted, but are extremely efficient.
However, it is reliable and comfortable should you wish to have it as an every day driver.
I am a classic car enthusiast, not a dealer, and I’m not into making a quick profit. The sale price is a figure close to my investment. I’ve had fun driving about in it over the summer, but I have a massive bucket list of cars still to own, and it’s time to move onto the next one.
Viewings encouraged, test drives available as long as you have a valid driving licence. I’m retired, so available most days except Fridays, by arrangement.
No overseas buyers please, car needs to be collected from Manchester.
No warranty or guarantees given or implied due to the age of the car.
A swap or part exchange also considered for one of the following. If it’s age applicable, then a current MOT is a must. If MOT exempt, then it needs to be roadworthy just like mine. No restorations or projects considered.
I’m being very realistic with the value of my car, so please be realistic with yours.
Triumph TR7 coupe or convertible 2. 0 or V8.
Triumph Stag 3. 0
Rover SD1, preferably a V8, but others considered.
Ford Cortina MK4 or 5.
Ford Sierra XR4i/ XR4x4.
Sunbeam Rapier or Alpine fastback.
Vauxhall Victor FB or a later model/ Ventora/ Cresta/ Magnum or VX4/ 90.
MG Metro/ MG Maestro.
Jaguar XJS-C.
This list isn’t exhaustive, there are so many cars from my younger days I haven’t owned yet, so if you have an alternative classic car you think may be of interest to me then please get in touch, but nothing over 5 metres in length as it needs to fit in my garage, and nothing tiny as I need to fit in it.
Phone calls are better in my opinion, so please call me to have a chat about the car. It’s so much easier than emails and messaging. South African import, so the bodywork, although not perfect, is in much better condition than most you’ll see, with no welding patches evident.
Well known and admired car in the owners club.
Modified to make it a reliable and usable car.
Fabulous and rapid V6 engine (fitted with a high lift camshaft).
Everybody loves it.
