Description

Hi I have my Renault 5 campus for sell, 1. 4 litre non-turbo petrol 5 door hatchback. It is HPI clear with low number of owners and low mileage. A true classic and excellent example to be appreciated, I brought this off a friend as he needed money for family awhile back & had been my weekend summer car since - have taken it from Leeds to Glasgow twice, also to Newcastle and down to Lincoln - it had never broken down on me and is extremely reliable and a great drive - one of the best small classics I owned.

Breakdown of pros and cons below, being a classic I deem it to be a running project (road-worthy) and would be good to the right owner for the years to come. During the original restoration (2022, before I brought it) it has had new windscreen, new sills, bumper (painted), brakes, battery, and service (about £1500-2000 worth), engine was checked prior to restoration and runs very sweet/ no issues. I since brought it and for MOT in 2022 (expire 2023) added new shocks, new wipers, new wheel arch panel welded, new tyres, new washer pump, new bonnet catch, all other important aspect checked (horn, choke, gearbox) at around 1000 GBP. In June 2024 I also spent about 650 gbp to redo the sills (de-rust and repainted as some rust was found, buffed all round - this last job ensured it was sealed properly). So in all over 3k worth of work is done to the car, genuine reason for sale as I am looking at another classic, and had a good few rides in this one - about 4000 miles during my ownership, it would drive from one end of UK to another with no issues but mpg isn't the best for a small car - 30-40 on e5 premium petrol depend on how you drive it.

Drivability more like a go kart, very good around corners, but gas out from around 80mph onwards. Minor bad bits is that interior driver seat has a small rip, and minor imperfections to the roof lining, fuel reading isn't 100% accurate and shows no fuel when below 25% capacity, and speedometer don't work (told it was disconnected by owner before the last - although for the right offer I am happy to sort this prior to the sale). I am also trying to get some classic wheel trims prior to the sell so it looks better.

In summary its one of a very few rare standard automatic 5 door hatchback 1. 4 petrol that is mechanically sound and whose bodywork is well maintained with good money spent (see below), will keep if it does not sell and contrary to belief the car will take you anyway and is solid all round. A quirky bonus is that it has also been featured as a dress car in the ITV series 'I fought the law' that will air in 2024 - thus adding to its character (originally it was a contender for being the main car but another Renault was chosen).

Any Viewing and full inspection is welcomed and test drive is strongly recommended to see for yourself on the overall condition of the car. Can offer further details of previous owner and garage where MOT has done for proof. It should pass another MOT with next to no issues as everything was sorted out for the last and was since very well maintained at my expense, all electric works, mechanically sound with gearbox changing gears perfectly and engine runs as smooth as butter - as would happy to demonstrate in person for serious buyers only.

Any question is strongly welcomed and happy to accommodate a very long test drive providing proof of comprehensive insurance, strictly reduced to 3k as had no expense spared during my ownership. I have owned the car for 2 years and in all, it was a great drive - brought first from Glasgow and since kept in a garage in Leeds and only used for summer trips, Now I have moved to a village next to Gainsborough so plenty of summer countryside fun. The car is a standard burgundy redish colour 4 door campus, very understated but is might I say a very reliable little go kart that would get you from A to B with no issues as it had served me very well throughout the last 2 years. As mentioned also it had been on set of the 2024 ITV series 'I fought the law' as a dress car - and was a contender to be an action car initially thus giving it some character. The original full restoration process occurred in Glasgow at engine and transmissions garage where my friend paid around 1. 5k to 2k for it - and checked every panel and mechanical part - and he trusted the director Dalton whose also his friend to carry out the work. I since brought it off him to help him out with money and have spent around further 1. 5k to maintain the car to niggle out all the bits that was missed, including electrics and bodywork - it was mechanically superb throughout my ownership and the engine I deem to be extremely reliable. It is amongst the first small classic which I find to be both adorable and reliable and would love to take anywhere in the country - as having tested given some time and space it'd happily cruise 65-80 on the motorway, and is a pleasure to drive on all roads, especially countryside where the twist and turns makes it more fun. I think as far as 5 door standard Renault 5's go, only a handful is well maintained in the UK, with much others being the much more expensive turbo variants - this being amongst the former, which would give anyone great pleasure for sentiment and both the drive experience as it honestly drives without any fault or unwanted noises, and drives like next to a new car might I say - but let the drive experience prove that to you should you be serious enough to come and go for a test drive - and of course, with a decent offer on the car and a promise to take care of it.
