The car covered a genuine 90, 000 miles with an exceptional supporting history to include its original manual and service book and remained with just one family from 1975 to 2011. The original ‘buff' logbook confirms Lord Banbury sold the BMW in September 1971 and we have a bill of sale on file showing the BMW selling for £2500 on the 18th February 1975. The car was supplied by BMW agents Walton Garage (Stafford Ltd). The car then stayed in single family ownership from 1975 to 2011 and from 1984 to 2011 when the cars was in the hands of the owner's son, it covered just 3000 miles. Although the car covered very little mileage, it did stay taxed, insured and MOT'd during his ownership. A large selection of the tax discs are with the comprehensive historySince leaving the family after 36 years, the BMW was treated to a professional body restoration by Brown's Classic Cars of Derrington and several photos are on file showing the level of work carried out. Other work included new front shock absorbers, headlights, and wiper motor. Since 2011 the BMW has covered over 5000 miles and in January 2019 at 87952 miles the car was treated to further re-commissioning work to include new front brake discs, pads and calipers, rear brake shoes, rear brake wheel cylinders, handbrake cable, auxiliary drive belt, stainless steel exhaust system, exhaust mounts, engine and gearbox oil change and new ignition items to include contact breakers, rotor arm, distributor cap and spark plugs.
This rare RHD E9 BMW is a beautiful looking car, it is also equally as impressive to drive. Amongst the masses of paperwork with the car is an original brochure and this is what BMW had to say about the car. "The pleasure given by a top-quality car is pleasure in precise engineering, in the efficiency of well-harmonized technical units and in the supreme feeling of command over spirited movement on the road. BMW have set themselves the task that the design of even their middle-class cars should be an outstanding achievement. Thus a car which is the paragon of the BMW production program must really achieve brilliance and a certain superiority in refined taste which is necessary to meet the competition of the International elite class. BMW 2800 CS". This statement really sums up the car, there is no doubt this high quality, fast ‘super coupe' with its newly developed 6 cylinder in line engine was a magnificent machine with true build quality.
The attention to detail on this car is excellent throughout. The elegantly styled body has superb panels and gorgeous, high quality paintwork. The interior is exceptional, is extremely comfortable and ensures a relaxed, luxury driving experience. On the road performance is something special, it feels so well balanced, holds the road perfectly and the performance and acceleration power are impressive. The six-cylinder inline engine is the basis for smooth, refined driving at low engine speeds and for vivacious pulling power and acceleration at high speeds which ultimately makes for an incredibly fun, and impressive car to drive. Even the automatic gearbox feels sporty so the car will suit many different styles of driving. This is a fantastic car and featured in Joe Browns (fashion magazine) photo shoot.
