Description

There are very few of these original early pull handle MGB's left ready for a new owner to rebuild and race or rally.

I have the V5 in my name showing the number of former keepers as "One" and the car is currently on Sorn with the DVLA. The original supplying dealer, Morris Garages Limited of Oxford, has a significant role in MG history producing the first MG car in the 1920's.

I've acquired a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Factory Record Certificate (will go along with the car to next owner) from which I know the following:

Vin: G-HN3/ 45XXX
Engine number: 18GA-U-H/ 14XXX
Body number: 43516
Specification: RHD, Home Market
Exterior colour: Old English White
Trim colour: Red
Hood Colour: Grey
Dates built: 17-18th August 1964
Date despatched: 3rd September 1964
Destination dealer: Morris Garages Limited, Oxford
Registration mark AFC 119C was issued by Oxford County Borough Council

The car was taken off the road in 1988 (at a mileage of approx. 35, 000 miles according to an old MOT) and dry stored to date.

There are dozens of receipts for consumables throughout the cars life in the Midlands area including a reconditioned gearbox unit and replacement windscreen. Three previous MOT's from the 1980's included as well.

Whilst now painted red there are areas of the original Old English White paintwork evident around the car if you look for them. It was a comprehensive respray and may well have been done when the car was new by the supplying dealer as there was a four month delay in registration compared to the factory despatch date.

The original removable hood, packaway folding hood frame, tonneau cover, removable tonneau bars and an aluminium bonnet are still with the car. There are spare seats along with other miscellaneous spares I will include too.

I believe it has a stainless exhaust system and currently it wears Rostyle steel wheels which are not original.

The front brake pads and rear brake shoes have been removed to make it easier to move around. Both doors open and close easily suggesting the bodyshell is sound and although currently a non-runner it is a good basis for a period restoration with all the important original parts included. It does not appear to have been subject to the usual bodgery and to my non-expert eyes it appears sound in all the important structural areas.

It will obviously need to be collected with a trailer/ flatbed and probably an engine crane for the original engine. The trolley upon which the engine currently sits is not included. After searching for my ideal restoration project I purchased this 1964 built pull handle MGB Roadster in July 2023. I am only the second registered keeper in 60 years!

I was planning on building an FIA race replica as this is an FIA eligible narrow tunnel car.

Shortly after buying I was offered the chance to purchase a car I had been pursuing for years from a friend and I now won't get around to this MGB project, hence for sale.

The original engine was removed from the car in 1987 for a rebuild and a replacement engine fitted. This original engine comes with the car and can be seen in one of the photos. I was told that the engine was modified during the rebuild but there is no documentary evidence to support this suggestion.
