‘Special order’ vehicle, built for Mercedes-Benz legend Sir Stirling Moss, OBE.
‘Astral Silver’ metallic with contrasting Royal Blue leather upholstery.
Supplied new to Sir Stirling Moss OBE in September 1990. It is well known that Sir Stirling Moss OBE took delivery of the vehicle directly from the Sindelfingen factory in Germany and brought it home himself and registered it with his most notable private registration ‘7SM’.
The vehicle features in prominently in Stirling's book of 'Great Drives in the Lakes and Dales' and has every supporting document and correspondence between the Mercedes-Benz and Sir Sterling Moss OBE, addressed to his Mayfair home in London.
The close relationship with Mercedes-Benz does not end with arguably its most famous driving legend. In 2021 when F1 great Valtteri Bottas left his position as Mercedes-Benz team driver, he and his wife were given the guard of honour in this very SL500 when leaving the headquarters for the final time. Setting the unique ownership history aside, this R129 has no signs of structural rust, all jacking points and wheel arches are perfect. Mechanically the car is sound and performs wonderfully on the road. The vehicle has all original books and manuals, all nicely documented within its competent service history. It has been serviced and maintained locally here in the southeast by well-regarded Mercedes Specialist Stevensons.
