Description
1977 Volkswagen Type 2 Westfalia Berlin 2. 0 Auto
I am reluctantly selling my 1977 Volkswagen Westfalia Berlin 2. 0 Auto as it is not being used nearly as often as I would like.
I have owned a number of late bay Westys over the last few years and they are by far the best Volkswagen type 2 camper conversions. In my opinion the Berlin being the best layout.
This left hand drive camper was imported into the UK in 2012 from California and was in fantastic original condition still in its original factory paint (I have photos from when it was imported). At some point since then it has had one external re-paint. I was advised by the previous owner that it was only painted as the original paint had faded in the California sun.
In 2014 the original type 4 2. 0 engine was replaced with a like for like reconditioned unit. This engine has only covered 14500 miles since being replaced. It runs fantastic. It will cruise at 65-70 mph all day long. It is the quietest air-cooled vehicle I’ve ever driven. The rare factory automatic gearbox functions perfectly and it has also been fitted with power steering. All of this adds up to a classic air-cooled VW that drives like a modern car. The factory ride height is super smooth. It has been fitted with oil temperature and cylinder head temperature gauges. I would not hesitate to drive it anywhere.
The original Westfalia Berlin interior is in excellent condition and provides sleeping room for 4 adults 2 in the top and 2 on the rock and roll bed. There is also 2 x 3 point seat belts in the rear. Original fridge still works perfectly. 2 ring gas burner and cold running water. Everything functions as it should. 600W invertor fitted with 2 x 3 pin sockets. Heat source gas heater fitted.
Original under vehicle gas tank was replaced by a new unit when imported to the UK. Comes with mains hook up.
In the last 12 months I have replaced all curtains in the correct original westfalia fabric along with as original tie backs, replaced the buddy seat that was missing and new cab carpet in the original material. New hub caps and various other bits and pieces.
In May this year service / improvements were carried out by air-cooled specialist Absolute VW with the remit to make it as usable and safe as possible and make sure that everything works and functions as it should.. Total cost of this was £4750 (Invoice available)
Work included….
New fuel hoses
Comprehensive service
New engine bay fire extinguisher
New Battery
New headlights and surrounds and LED bulbs
New rear shock absorbers
New front brake discs, pads and calipers
New rear brake shoes and wheel cylinders
This camper must be one of the best late bay Westfalias on the market. It is super solid, Superb straight panels and a lovely shine to the paint. The interior is completely original apart from a few sensible upgrades. Everything works as it should and is a joy to drive.
Also comes with side canopy, Box containing breakdown kit with all the essentials you may need, Westfalia style cover for roof rack, portaloo etc etc.
While I’ve mainly used it for camping I have taken it to 2 Volkswagen shows where it won best original camper and best bay window.
Lots more photos available if you are genuinely interested.
