With heavy hearts we're selling our 1993 classic shape Saab 900. She's a much loved part of the family but we've no garage space for her at our new house.
146, 000 miles. Automatic. Full history. Beautiful 'Citrin' metallic beige paintwork (presents as silver, but with a slightly gold hue), original SE-spec cross-spoke alloys, electric sunroof, mirrors, central locking (all work), electric windows (work but passenger one a bit sluggish), aircon (not currently working). Unrestored original condition. Some cosmetic rust (see photos) and slightly saggy rear headliner (common on 900s). Rust in wheel arches referenced as advisory on recent MOTs but has never been a structural issue. Will ultimately need some welding to resolve but probably not for some time. Also 4 small cracks on the top of the dash (again - common in 900s), some very slight damage to the driver's door insert, a cracked offside tail-light and some touching up to the fuel filler flap (see photos). MOT to Nov 2024. Very reliable runner. 'K900' personalised plate included with sale. Featured in Saab Driver magazine July/ Aug 2020. The Saab 900 is an iconic design dating back to the 1970s, and has its origins in the Saab 99 with which Saab achieved international rallying success. Whilst the most sought after versions are the 16v turbos, these command higher prices and can be fragile. The normally aspirated version is a more affordable, useable daily classic with less to go wrong! 1993 was the last year of manufacture of the classic 900 before it was replaced by the Vauxhall Vectra-based new-generation 900 later that year.
Originally supplied by Lime Saab in Leamington Spa on 5th March, 1993, this particular example has been well cared for by her previous owners, and covered less than 90, 000 miles in her first 20 years with 3 owners based in the West Midlands. A period of more extensive use followed with an owner in Yorkshire, who covered around 30, 000 miles between 2013 and 2015, with about a further 10, 000 being added by owners in Yorkshire and then London, before I purchased her in 2019 with around 137, 500 on the clock. Over her 5 years with us she's been used as a weekend car and for the odd long distance UK summer trip. I've added about 7, 000 miles in that time bringing the total mileage to just under 146, 000.
She's been very reliable for both me and her previous owner, who did an extensive tour to the South of France without any issues. The only breakdown we've suffered in our 5 years of ownership being a burst radiator top hose.
I purchased her as a birthday present for my wife, Amy - known to me always as Yma, hence the number plate - in 2020, following a very difficult year for us personally. She helped us heal and took us on many happy trips together, enjoying the wind on our faces through the sun roof in the summer sun. But we are no longer able to garage her, plus I inherited another car when my Mum died last year, and the time has come to part ways.
We've been members of the Saab Owners Club throughout our ownership of the car, and in 2020 the magazine printed a feature on the car and our previous 900. A copy of the article is included with the car.
She comes with the original Saab leatherette service file, handbook and completed service booklet, including paperwork relating to the original sale. There's also an extensive file of over 60 invoices and MOT certificates. Worth noting that she has had three reg plates in her lifetime: originally K63 CAC, she was registered to a private plate (K12 KSD) by her second owner, a Mr Ken Day. On selling to her third owner she was returned to her original plate until 2020, when I purchased the private plate K900 YMA for her, which we are including with the sale.
