I bought this car three and a half years ago after it had been standing for a while. It was a runner but otherwise in a very bad state. I've carried out a major rebuild and made some important modifications such as a roll over bar and substantial seat belt mounts. This is all detailed in a blog at - details above so I won't go into the fine detail here.
It has a Ford Cortina MK3 2 litre GT engine with a Weber 28/ 36 carb, a type 9 five speed gearbox and an Atlas back axle - so a good spec.
At the current time the MOT has run out but it is insured and on SORN. It has a proper V5 and is registered as a GP (who made them) Sports, so no problem with the DVLA or insuring it. It's currently in white primer and the intention was to roller paint it in an off white. I've done this paint finish on two Trikings that I've built and it provides a good, durable finish that most people think has been sprayed on. The interior needs carpeting and a better pair of seats. There is no tonneau or hood as yet, I was going to make these. I have a set of wire basket trims for the wheels that look like wire wheels when they’re fitted if you prefer a more traditional look.
It can be used straight away - unlike many kit cars for sale - the hard work has been done as you can see in the blog. The only fault I'm aware of with it is two minor oil drips - one from the gearbox tail end where the new oil seal and new propshaft have yet to fully bed in and another from the gearbox.
It's for sale because I have to undergo chemotherapy for the next few months so it's likely to be 6 months + before I'll have the energy to rub it down and gloss paint it.
As well as the purchase price I've spent around £3, 500 on parts such as stainless steel fuel tank, complete new dashboard and instruments, new set of tyres, GAZ adjustable shocks, new propshaft, new headlights, new Goodrich flexi brake hoses, new brake pipes, special front springs for better comfort and handling, new front subframe assembly etc.
It seems sensible to sell it given my health situation but the price is a difficult one. As it stands I'm looking for around £4, 500. This mostly covers the cash outlay but certainly not my time, but then it has been an interesting project so far.
