1964 Triumph TR4 in Signal Red with rare Surrey hard top, manual with J-type overdrive on 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears. Recent comprehensive engine rebuild by Triumph specialists.
This Triumph TR4 was originally supplied to Westgate Ltd, Gloucester on 28th February 1964.
The comprehensive history file reveals that the car underwent a full body off restoration circa 2007 to 2011 which included new floor pans, wiring loom and wiring, complete braking system, new glass, stainless steel exhaust, full bare metal professional spray paint, new brightwork, new chrome 60 spoke wire wheels and fuel tank. There are many photos taken during this restoration work in the history file. The car was purchased in September 2021 from the previous owner of 10 years with an odometer reading of 103, 102 and is currently standing at 106, 910. This car comes with a British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate Number 2012/ 27707.
The car comes with its original four-cylinder engine block which underwent comprehensive rebuild in 2023 comprising of machining the engine block, fitting of new cylinder liners coupled with 89mm pistons increasing the engine capacity from 2138cc to 2283cc along with a new fast road cam, new clutch, lightened flywheel, timing chain and rear engine oil seal. These works also included a new four-into-two-into-one stainless steel exhaust with heat wrapping, new oil sump, new radiator and electric fan, new uprated water pump and fanbelt. There are many “work-in-progress” photos taken by Southern Triumph during the engine rebuild work.
The bodywork and chassis are rust free as can be appreciated in the photos whilst the signal red paintwork is in very good condition with a recent respray of the Surrey hard top. Chrome work is also in very good condition.
The dashboard is period correct and finished in white, a Moto-Lita steering wheel, with after-market Mazda MX3 sports seats making longer journeys very comfortable. The two original black leather seats were re-trimmed in real bull-hide leather in the 2007 restoration and are included in the sale along with a tonneau cover.
Since ownership the car has been maintained at local Triumph independent specialists (Southern Triumph – Bournemouth).
Many other upgrades have been undertaken which include a Hi-Torque starter motor, coolant and fuel hoses, fuel cut off switch, Halogen lamps, brake master cylinder, brake pipes, speedo calibration, servo assisted brakes, ride height adjusted to factory specifications, new leaf springs, throttle cable repairs/ alterations.
The engine refurb commenced at an odometer reading was 103, 926 so to date the engine has just over 3000 miles being “run-in”.
The car had an oil change service and MOT with no advisories at Southern Triumph on 20th August 2024.
The car is always garaged avoiding use in wet conditions and has only been fueled with Esso Synergy Supreme +99 or Shell V Power equivalent fuel. This car has had no accident history and no mechanical failures.
This car is a fantastic representation of the marque and currently wants for nothing providing worry free motoring which is rare from a car of its age.
