Description
Lotus Elan SE Turbo M100 - This is the Top Gear TV show feature car.
The original Lotus Press Car, chassis no. 10 as authenticated by Lotus letter within the massive history file. Autocar magazine described the Elan as “the quickest point to point car available and the finest front wheel drive car bar none”.
Here is a fantastic and unique opportunity to own a very useable piece of Lotus motoring history. I need garage space as have a new Alpine otherwise I would keep.
This very Lotus Elan (G397KEX) was on Top Gear and featured heavily in many car magazines in the 1990's, some of which are included within the history files. There is a 7 minute feature article from the Top Gear TV show with Chris Goffey in 1990 which is available on Youtube today. This car also has a unique feature in that the 'pop up' lights are different to other M100 Elan's as they open up like opera glasses.
The car starts and drives very well. The car has had replacement gas shock absorbers & a stainless steel exhaust fitted in the past (history file details this). Within the last 2 1/ 2 years the car has had some general work, including a cambelt & and a service at 79000 miles. I put an extra MOT on the car in February 2024 which expires in Feb 2025.
During October 2023 the previous dealership who I purchased car from had carried out works that included -
Full Service at 79000 miles
New MOT
Brake hoses
Anti-rollbar linkages
Chassis painted and waxoiled.
The wheels, seats, rear light lenses are all very good, The hood is good with little fraying on piping. But there are a few cosmetic age related areas that could be improved on the paint and a scratch to the front bumper as pictured. Has 2 keys and 2 immobilisers included. Fantastic history file included with Service manuals, "Car" Magazine, "Performance Car" magazine and other articles which feature this very car. A fantastic piece of mooring history for a collector and a very useable modern classic.
The history file documents original ownership by Lotus who sold G397KEX onto a Lotus employee 3 years later. Lots and lots of invoices for previous works in the folders, including all Tax discs etc... etc.... etc.....
