Description
For sale 1972 2 door mk3 cortina. Essex V6, 5 speed, savage replica.
The car has an essex v6 fitted using South African engine mounts. The car was featured in Classic Ford magazine (quite a few years ago) which states it’s a 3. 1. I haven measured the bores to confirm the capacity change.
It has a steel timing gear, 5 speed gearbox, atlas axle, stainless steel side exit exhausts.
It has a Savage bonnet and GT interior retimed in genuine leather.
I have a lot of photos to show work done to it whilst I’ve owned it (around 3. 5 years) for anyone interested in buying it and videos of it being run / driven.
Currently it’s stored at my folks house in Shropshire while I’ve been doing renovations on my own house 170 miles away, this & commitments with a young family means I don’t get a chance to work on it anymore, this is the only reason I’m selling it.
There’s a few things to finish it off:
It runs & stops but after fitting a new (genuine Weber 38) carburettor it needs the fuelling and timing setting up. I recommend that you will need to transport it with a trailer so you can set it up properly. It’ll at least idle & get on a flatbed lorry. Can provide videos of it running.
It needs the windscreen washer pipes fitting. The OEM washer jets are fitted & the foot pump on the floor is present and wired up, it also has a split free correct pre-facelift washer bottle.
The time clock on the dash is no longer operational. The oil temp gauge is a bit temperamental unless you periodically tighten the connector on the sender. The other gauges seem to work; water temp, fuel, oil pressure, volts. Wipers, lights, horn etc work.
Interior light door jamb switches need wiring up. (it uses the older, switched positive, type)
I have the correct pre-facelift chrome grill to fit which I will give you when you purchase the car. I personally always preferred the facelift single lamp version myself, hence why I’ve fitted that.
The exhausts are very loud (side exit pipes generally are) and personally I’d replace those for something quieter.
That is all I can think of currently. It is over half a century old & these old cars always want your time.
I’m not interested in swaps, part exchanges or anything other than a bank transfer sale.
I am open to sensible negotiations / offers. The bonnet alone, being one of maybe half a dozen remaining in the world, is worth a small fortune on its own.
