Description

Here are the details of my 1974 MG B GT - fondly referred to as Vera (VeRA 686N)

She has had 5 previous owners over her 50 years.

Vera was originally purchased from Fletcher Bros Ltd near Buxton in Derbyshire, on the 17/ 08/ 1974. She was then sold in 1983 to a Dr Drake in Rochdale, shortly after this Dr Drake moved to North London.

In 1986 she was then purchased by a Mrs Grover form North London. Then in 1990 she was sold by a Mr Allen in Hertfordshire, then sold to a Mr Austin who spent years restoring her. I then purchased the car in 2018.

I have a folder full of numerous receipts showing works carried out to Vera over the years, from the early 80s to the present day. This bundle also includes some old MOT test certificates. She also comes with the original handbook, original sales brochure and workshop manual, as well as two full sets of keys.

She has certainly been looked after over the years. In the late 1990s early 2000s she had a complete nut and bolt restoration, this included new panels as well as a mechanical overhaul. I have about 30 photos showing various stages of the body rebuild.

The receipt's I have for just the parts spent on her alone add up to just over £10k. During this period she had a colour change from her original Beige to a Light British Racing Green, this was also when the club classic black leather interior trim was installed.

She also had an Ivor Searle unleaded engine fitted at 81292 miles, her total mileage now is 91870 miles. So she has covered just over 10k miles on this engine. She also has Lumenition electronic ignition fitted.

This month she has had a brake rebuild from front to back, including new calipers, discs/ pads, new brake hoses and wheel cylinders. This work was carried out by the MG specialist Tony Davies Cars of Bury St Edmunds.

Overall she is structurally sound and a tidy looking and useable car. I have taken photos of the floor pan/ inner quarter panels and side sills as these are areas that are usually prone to rust badly.
She does have some slight body blemishes / rust appearing above the door waist line moulding. She also has a couple on the tailgate. I have tried to capture these in my images as best I can.

The chrome work is okay for the most part, although there is some rust blemishes appearing on the rear bumper as seen in the photos.

She also has about 6 small dents/ marks on the wings, bonnet and roof. This was due to a shelf in my garage collapsing onto her. Again I have tried to capture these as best I can, they are not huge or deep dents and only noticeable from certain angles/ light.

She has a 4 speed gearbox with overdrive, she also has K&N filters fitted. I do not have the original air boxes. She is a chrome bumper version so probably one of the last ones as the rubber ones came into being fitted as standard in September 1974.

She starts and drives well, although she could do with a fuel drain and a tank full of fresh fuel as this new petrol goes off quick when in storage.

She was valued by the MGOC a few years ago at £7800 and by my own insurance company last year set an agreed value of £8000
