Description

1934 Humber Vogue 12h. p.
This is a rare (possible only five extant) ‘first Series’ car, with chromed radiator grille and movable shutters. Altogether much more attractive coachwork than the later ‘second series’ version.

Originally owned by me 1964 – 1968, then repurchased at auction in 2013. See photos for current condition.
A nut and bolt chassis-up restoration of all mechanical systems has been undertaken, and the car starts and runs in excellent fashion. A proper wiring loom is included but needs fitting.
The majority of the restoration work was done by Blue Diamond Riley Services – engineering.
Saunders Motor Works Ltd - engine rebuild.
Trevor J Hirst Restoration & Coachwork – bodywork.
All structural work on the coachwork has also been completed, including all rusted metal and wood-framing replaced as needed. However, such is the high quality of the steel originally used the metal replaced is only for lower door-skins and the luggage boot base and sides.
Chromium plating has been renewed where some of the replating undertaken in 1965 has needed attention.
All decorative woodwork has been stripped and re-lacquered.
The seats are in good order but covered in fawn PVC.
The rest of the trim is beyond recovery but can be used for patterns.
The car has been assembled for fit, but now will need wings off etc for painting.
A total retrim would do credit to this rare and attractive car.
The owner must now sell due to health issues, and so offers are invited. The Humber Vogue design was attributed to Captain Henry Molyneux, a British fashion designer working in Paris. In fact, the coachwork owes much to a Delage D8 clothed by the French coachbuilders Letourneur et Marchand.
The Vogue was offered in a range of two-tone colours, and although advertised as being especially suitable for lady drivers, it soon attracted a male clientele who wanted a small, luxurious and stylish car with above average performance for its class.
The above facts make the Vogue equally appealing today, as 'pretty' and 'rare' is always attractive.
